The Fall of Man
Originating Sin and its Consequences (Gen. 3:1-24)
Symbolism
• Eden-harmonious relationship with
God, with one another, and with
nature
- no fear, no pains, no problems,
no sickness, no hunger, no conflicts,
• Adam (Ha’adam)- represents
human
• Eve (Hawwah)- represents life
• Serpent- father of lies, subtle and
cunning; the shrewdest of all
creatures
• Disobedience of Adam and Eve to
God’s command- origin of the evil in
the world
• Act of eating the fruit of the
forbidden fruit – abuse of human
freedom
• Forbidden fruit-imbibing evil
Temptation
• Makes something bad look good
• Itself is not a sin, but it can lead to sin if you
give in to it
• Makes something wrong seems attracted
sin
• is basically an act against God, against our true
nature, and against our fellow human beings
• Offense against reason, truth, and right conscience
• Be completely independent from God

Original sin
• Personal sin of the first humans
• Sin that brought moral evil into the
world

Universal Effects
1. Sin of the World- destroyed whatever

Grave Consequence of Sins
Sin Alienates Us from….
1. God – “…the man and his wife hid
themselves from the Lord God among the
trees…” (Gen. 3:8)
2. Ourselves – “…they realized that they were
naked…” (Gen. 3:7)
3. Others – “…the woman you put here
with me-she gave me fruit from the tree,
so I ate it. The Lord God then asked the
woman, ‘why did you do such thing?’
The woman answered, ‘the serpent
tricked me into it, so I ate it.’(Gen.3:12-
13)
4. Nature – “…I will intensify the pangs of
your childbearing; in pain shall you bring
forth children…cursed be the ground
because of you in toil shall you eat its yield
all days of your life. Thorns and thistles
shall it bring forth to you, as you eat the
plants of the field. By the sweat of your
face shall you get brad to eat, until you
return to the ground.(Gen.3:16-19)
There is HOPE for a sinful world
“…I will put enmity between you and
woman, and between your offspring and
hers; He will strike at you head, while you
strike at his heel…” (Gen 3:15)
“…for the man and his wife the Lord
God made a leather garments with which
He clothed them…” (Gen 3:21)
…God did not leave adam and Eve empty
handed. God is always with us and provides for
us even if we are sinful…
The Sacred Teachings
• 1. The Devil’s Presence from the
beginning…(Gen. 3:1;13)
- represent the Devil, Satan
- the devil’s mission is to tempt or to
trick
• - to encourage man that bad
things are seemingly good. (tempt)
- to lure man to sin or rebel against
God. (trick)

what to do for persons like us
• 2. Eve, the first defender of the faith
( (Gen. 3:2-4)
• - has fought the temptation of the serpent;
she has proven that humanity is capable of
fighting temptation
- she believed in the Word of God
- she spoke powerfully and
explained her faith
- she was the first to speak about
God and her relationship with Him (1st
theologian)
• 3. Sin (Gen. 3:6)
• - Pride has been the root cause of the
downfall of humanity.
• Types of Sins:
1. Sin of omission- sin for not acting on
what should be done.
2. Sin of commission- is the forbidden act
committed by the person
4. The effects of the fall of man
a. Original sin- makes man prone to
committing sins; the desire to commit sin
(concupiscence). (Rm. 5:12)
• The Sacrament of Baptism, remove the
original sin.
• when one becomes a part of the Mystical
Body of Christ
• to save us from the fires of eternal hell and
to gain eternal life in heaven.
• b. The death of man
- the frailty of man became visible after
the Fall.
- man became mortal, capable of death
- Death, comes to the world (Gen. 3:19)
• 5. The “photo-evangelium”
- the first Good News (Gen 3:15)
- the promise of the Coming of the Savior
and the woman who will bear Him in her
womb, the Virgin Mary
- a blessing was proclaimed: a woman
shall come to bear a child
- the child will be the one to crush the
head of the devil
A Blessing Proclaimed…
• she shall be filled with grace; will never be
tricked by the devil to commit any mistakes or sin
• from her conception, she shall be freed from
original sin.
• she’ll maintain the purity of heart and soul

• The Grace of God will always be
there to put the devil out.
With the grace of God , we could
overcome temptations.
Grace of God should be asked and
should be acquired through the
acceptance of sacraments.
