TOPIC 12: GIFTS 8/3/23

1. What kinds of gifts do you like to give?

i like to get things that i can use – i mean things that are practical. it
might be kind of boring, but i like to get things like socks and
underwear because i always need those and i don’t like shopping for
those things!

i really appreciate something that i know the person giving it to me


has put in a lot of thought into it. maybe they remembered something
that i mentioned liking and then a long time after that they see
something like it and buy it more me. the cost doesn’t matter. it’s the
thought that counts.

yes, i have. like when christmas comes we will give each other
and the gifts can be spiritual gifts, or cookies, books, toys, ...

[Link] you receive a lot of gifts on your birthday?


Correct. When I was a kid, I really loved my birthday. because my
mother celebrated my birthday and I invited many of my friends to
this party so I gave a lot of [Link] I like it most when opening
presents, in the gift packages there are surprising gifts: teddy bears,
pen boxes, coloring,..a lot.
4. What was your last gift? Did you like it?
I can't remember clearly. But I think the last gift I was given
was the New Year's money from my family and relatives
And I really like little. because you know, these gifts not only
bring good luck, but also help me live more comfortably
when I return to the city to study
5. What was the best gift you ever received?
The best gift I have been given is the advice and concern that I
receive from my family and friends whenever I am in a difficult
situation.
6. Is there a special gift you like to get?
i think right now i don't have any special gifts that i would like to be
given.
7. How do you thank someone who gave you a gift?
i would say thank you to them and then give them a hug or give them
something they liked.
8. About how many birthday gifts or cards do you send or give to
people each year
When i was a kid, i used to celebrate my birthday every year and
invite many friends and relatives to my birthday party with colored
cards. if i remember correctly, when i celebrate my birthday, i invite
about 20-30 people. and then i also invited a lot of people when they
had a party.
but when i grow up, i'm not the same anymore, less birthday parties,
less inviting people, less parties, less gifts.
9. what time of year do you give gifts?
i only give presents on birthdays and sometimes when someone close
to me has something fun we will have a small party and give
something to celebrate

I like to give others small and useful gifts such as books, pens,
notebooks, hats, shoes. But when I give someone a gift, I always
wonder between this and that, I don’t know, choosing a gift is really
hard
11. Who was the last person you gave a gift to?
The last person I gave a gift to was a friend of mine, for her birthday
January 19th.
We live quite far apart so I sent her the gift delivery. I gave her a
keychain because she always complained to me that she often forgot
where the key was.
12. What gift do you recommend someone give in your
culture?  For children?  For parents?  For boyfriend? /
Girlfriend
in the past, if the vietnamese caught too many aquatic animals, they
shared the food with relatives and neighbors.
 for children? like on birthday, people often give toys, school supplies,
clothes, cakes....
 for parents: when parents and children return from the city, they often
bring back healthy gifts such as bird's nest, tea, etc.
 for a boyfriend? / girlfriend? on valentine's day, couples often give
each other flowers, chocolates, necklaces, rings...

13. When you travel abroad, do people expect you to return with gifts?
yes, of course. i think people will definitely look forward to the items
brought back from abroad, especially the children. they will definitely
look forward to a new toy, or candy that they have not seen before
14. is it enough for a husband/boyfriend to give his wife/girlfriend
flowers on her birthday?
i think not enough. because, except for birthdays, there are many
holidays in the year and especially valentine's day. this day is the
anniversary of couples.

15. Is the cost of a gift important to you?


No, the price of a gift doesn't really matter to me. Because in my
opinion, gifts are the heart, the wishes of the person who gives you gifts.
In Vietnamese culture, gift is an important part because it brings joy,
best wishes, helps the giver to show love and respect for the recipient, as
well as care for those around

16. Which gift is better, a well-chosen gift or money?


A well-chosen gift is always better. The problem is that no one can be
sure that the gift is well chosen.
I think well-chosen gifts are great but it's also difficult for the giver like
this people will worry about the really suitable gift
And about money, I think it's also common, like in weddings, or Tet,
many people use red envelopes to give gifts.

17. What are some things that you don't give as gifts in your country?
Sharp objects such as knives, swords, swords, scissors...
- umbrellas because they symbolize separation, sadness

18. What do you think of gift givers?


Those who give us gifts are those who know and are close to us.
They give us gifts in the hope of making us happy
and those who give us gifts no matter how big or small, but they
certainly care for them no matter how much or little.
