Hamlet
Choose four questions and write short notes on
them.
1) What is the importance of the play of
the murder of Gonzaga (the play within
the play)?
The “play within a play” scene (Act 3 Scene 2) is
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT in advancing the plot
of Hamlet. It’s the very thing that gives Hamlet
confirmation that his uncle is indeed the man
who murdered his father. Hamlet has some
trouble with the whole revenge thing he does
not immediately prepare for murder upon
hearing the ghost’s request. He wants to be
100% sure that he is taking revenge on the right
guy. The murder of Gonzaga is a play that is put
on right there in the castle. Everybody comes to
watch– Hamlet, Horatio, Ophelia, Polonius,
Gertrude, and of course Claudius. Hamlet wants
to see how Claudius reacts to the play in order
to determine whether or not he is guilty.
2) The play begins with the fantastical
appearance of a ghost. Do you think
that this is meant to be real? What is its
role in the play?
The Ghost is one of the great mysteries of
Hamlet. The play begins by showing us the
Ghost appearing in front of several witnesses,
who see it and discuss it among themselves, so
we know from the outset that the Ghost is not
simply of Hamlet’s imagination. We also learn
later in the play that the Ghost is telling the
truth about being murdered by Claudius,
because Claudius admits to the murder when
he’s talking alone in Act 3, scene 3. The Ghost
claims that it is the spirit of Hamlet’s father,
and it isn’t real ,But It has been released for a
short time to show us his role and deliver its
message to Hamlet and telling him the truth
about being murdered by Claudius .
3)In what ways are Laertes and Fortinbras
compared and contrasted with Hamlet?
There are similarities between Hamlet,
Fortinbras, and Laertes. They do have some
character differences but they face many of the
same challenges and are put in similar
situations. They compared with Hamlet because
All three of the men have lost their fathers and
are seeking to avenge their deaths in some way.
Hamlet is contemplating killing Claudius,
Fortinbras has gathered an army to reclaim
lands that his father lost, and Laertes will do
whatever it takes to get revenge for Polonius’
death. And the main contrast between Hamlet
and the two men is that Fortinbras and Laertes
are willing to do whatever it takes to reach their
goal while Hamlet spends the majority of his
time in thought trying to decide the right thing
to do.
4)What was Hamlet is biggest problem?
Hamlet is biggest problem is his fear to take
the right discission about his father is death.
Hamlet is haunted by his father is ghost who
reveals that he was murdered by Claudius is
uncle. despite his desire for revenge, hamlet
still not sure to do so. He constantly
questions the ghost is authenticity and the
morality of killing. This overthinking makes
him late to take decisive action against his
father is killer.
