on quizzes, tests, and problem sets will be presented with the points allocated for
each question following the question.It isstronglyrecommendedthat you get into
the habit of completing all of your practice work as if you are completing an
evaluation.
Marks allocation per question
A full solution to a physics problem has the following components:
1. A diagram, when appropriate such as a free-body diagram or a labelled
triangle with the appropriate given and required values. [ 1 mark]
2. Correct selection and rearrangement of the formula(s) to be used. [1 mark]
3. Values are correctly substituted into the formula and showing your steps [1 mark]
4. The correct calculated answer with the appropriate units [1 mark]
5. A concluding statement with the answer reported to the correct number of
significant figures, and all appropriate units. [ 1 mark]
ote: Questions that involve multiple steps, or require the use of multiple formulae,

may have additional marks allocated for the additional process work. For multi-step
problems, students may combine multiple formulas into one and solve, provided that
they show/explain their algebraic manipulation (ie, show how you combined the
formulas).
