SLIATE (LMS)
The Learning Management System (LMS) of the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological
Education (SLIATE) serves as an online platform for students and staff, providing access to various and
academic resources, courses, and materials. It always for course management, assignment submission
and student- teacher- interaction- in a virtual learning environment instructor can upload resources,
manage assessment and track student progress. The platform also supports announcements. Student
submissions and grading users, requiring a login for both students and teachers ensuring a secure
academic environment.

HISTORY
As per the recommendation of the committee appointed by prof.
Wiswa Warnapala, Deputy Minister of Higher Education in 1944, the
Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technical Education (SLIATE) was
formed in 1995, under the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technical
Education Act No. 29 of 1995, in 2001 the name of the institution was
amended as Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education,
(SLIATE). It function as an autonomous Institute for the management
of Higher National and National Diploma courses. The main purposes
of establishing SLIATE were to reform and restructure the entire
technical and vocational education system in relation to the changing
needs of economic development to meet manpower requirements of
national development strategies, and the promotion of privatization,
with special concern of meeting the scarcity of trained technological
manpower resources at the technician level.
The SLIATE is a statutory body operating under the purview of the
Ministry of Higher Education and is one of the leading higher
educational institutions in Sri Lanka.
SLIATE has been focusing on fostering Advanced Technical Education
at post-secondary level. It is mandated to establish Advanced
Technological institutes (ATI) in every province for technological
education. At present it manages and supervises 11 ATI s and 7 ATI
sections. Its Chief Executive Officer is the Director General while each
ATI s and ATI sections are headed by a Director and an Academic
coordinator respectively.

Is SLIATE government or private?
Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technical
Education (SLIATE) is one of the leading
government institution in Higher Education
Sector in Sri Lanka which was established by
the parliament ac no. 29 of 1995, and it comes
under the purview of the Ministry of Higher
Education.
How many SLIATE are there in Sri Lanka?
At present, it manages and supervises eighteen
provincial Advanced Technological institutes
throughout the island.

The requirements for SLIATE
Passed the G.C.E. (A/L) examination in one sitting in any stream.
Ordinary pass for English and Mathematics at the G.C.E. (O/L)
examination.
Institute receives more application than the seating capacity.
Grading marks maximum.
Is SLIATE free or paid?
No course frees are levied for full time course. Course fees for the part
time students will be eight thousand rupees (RS 8000/-) per semester.

What is HND equal to?
A Higher National Diploma is a level 5 qualification. HNDs are at the same level
as foundation degrees and diplomas in higher education (DipHE). This level of
study is the equivalent of the first two years of a Bachelor’s degree and as such,
gives you the same type of practical skills, knowledge and understanding as a
foundation degree or education diploma.
Is HND a good qualification?
In conclusion, an HND can be considered a professional qualification in specific
industries and roles, prioritizing practical skills and experience.
