On the ship we will have a part of the small torus, but also part of the large torus reserved
for food and
water storage.
Water will be kept in glass containers at an average temperature of 13-18 degrees, ideal for this.
Each food will be divided according to its needs in order not to deteriorate and resist over a long period
of time.
The compartments will have a capacity of 50,000 L and will be arranged next to each other along the
space held in the torus
How the food will be restricted well each food warehouse will have a nametag where its type will be
specified (examples: moist and dry), but also an attached tablet that will indicate the food inside it.
Within each zone, the following areas will be defined by the temperature and humidity:
Freeze-Dry Pantry
-freeze dried food
-long life
-minimal weight
Temperature: Foods that have been freeze-dried ought to be stored at a constant low temperature. For
long-term storage, a temperature range of 0°F to 10°F (-18°C to -12°C) is advised. This aids in reducing
the rate of microbial activity and chemical reactions.
Humidity: Keep the freeze-dry pantry's humidity level low. The ideal humidity level is less than 10%. Low
humidity keeps the freeze-dried food from absorbing moisture, keeping it crunchy and maintaining its
quality.
Hydroponic Greenhouse
-fresh fruits
-fresh vegetables and herbs
- supplement nutritional needs
Temperature: Aiming for a temperature range 32°F to 55°F (0°C to 13°C).). This range is suitable for the
growth of many common greenhouse crops.
Humidity: Maintain humidity between 90% and 95% for leafy greens, root vegetables, and cruciferous
vegetables and levels between 80% and 90% for most fruits.
Spice and Flavor Repository
-variety of spices and flavorings
-enchance the taste of foods
Temperature temperature range between 50°F to 70°F (10°C to 21°C).
Humidity: Retain low humidity levels to avoid caking and moisture absorption. Humidity should ideally
be less than 60%.
Vitamin Infusion Station
-essential vitamins
-ensure balanced and nutritions diet
Temperature: To keep the active ingredients from deteriorating, the majority of vitamin infusions should
be kept in a cold atmosphere. Conventionally, a temperature range of 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) is
optimal.
Allergen-Free Storage
- storing allergen-free food options
- for crew members with specific dietary restrictions.
Temperature: temperature range between 32°F to 60°F (0°C to 16°C).
Humidity: humidity levels between 30% and 60%.
Nuts and cereal storage
Temperature: temperature range of 50°F to 70°F (10°C to 21°C) for cereal and 32°F to 45°F (0°C to 7°C)
for nuts.
Humidity: the optimal humidity for cereal is 65% and for nuts between 40–60%
