Task Performance
Application of Logic Gates and Boolean Algebra
Objectives:
At the end of the exercise, the students should be able to:
▪ Implement logic circuits using basic AND, OR, and NOT gates; and
▪ Construct the truth tables based on the operation of the different logic gate circuits.
Materials:
▪ 1 pc. 74LS04 TTL Hex Inverter IC
▪ 1 pc. Quad 2 – input OR gate (74LS32)
▪ 1 pc. Quad 2 – input AND gate (74LS08)
▪ 1 pc. 2 – input NOR gate (74LS02)
▪ 1 pc. 2 – input NAND gate (74LS00)
▪ 5 pcs. LED’s (Light Emitting Diode)
▪ 1 pc. Connecting wires
▪ 1 pc. Breadboard
▪ 1 pc. Power Supply (Output voltage – DC 5V)
Procedures:
Note: Please observe safety precautions and proper handling of materials and equipment while conducting the laboratory
experiment. This experiment is to be performed under an instructor’s supervision.
A. Logic Inverter/Testing NOT Gate
1. Mount the 7404 IC in the breadboard and connect pin 14 to 5V and pin 7 to ground.
2. Connect one of the inverters shown in Figure 1. The input will come from logic SW1, and the output will be displayed
on LED indicator L1. Apply the logic voltage to the input, as shown in the table below, and observe the corresponding
output. Record results in the table. Does the circuit invert?YES
Input Output

3. Remove the connection of SW1 so that the inverter input is open. Observe the output voltage. With the input open,
the output is binary 1. This means that an open input has the same effect as binary 0 input.
4. Wire the circuit shown in Figure 2. How many inverters are cascaded? 5

Observations:
Based on what we did, I have observed that the truth table is a tool that display the outcomes of
logical operations. It is a typical method that involves constructing tables where the inputs
generate sequential unsigned binary numbers.
Conclusions and Recommendations:
In conclusion, I have learned to discern the output based on the wire inputs. I have verified
that the results matched the truth table of the logic gates we are testing.
