When I study Chinese, especially Chinese characters, I feel overwhelmed because I’m not really
used to them, and learning a new language by using a second language is not easy for me. I know
that learning Chinese characters requires a lot of effort and time, and I did not really spend that
much time practicing them. However, I know that all I need right now is practice, so I will spend
the whole summer learning more Chinese in Vietnam. I did not perform well and really be active
in our Chinese class and I am so sorry for that. I am really stressed with the IB because most of
the subjects I choose are the ones I have never learned in Vietnam, and it leads me to somehow
spend more time on them instead of practicing Chinese. Next year, when I come to DP2 year, I
promise to manage my time better and leverage the summer to improve my Chinese.
The content in class is organized in an understandable structure, and it would be helpful if you
could teach us how to write the characters according to their order. I also think that beginners
like us should start with Pinyin first so that they can learn how to pronounce everything before
we start to learn Chinese characters because not everyone is similar to the tone in Chinese.
Pinyin can somehow help the beginner have more connection with Chinese, as most of us are
from countries using the Latin alphabet, and we need time to get used to it gradually.
