PATIENT’S RIGHTS
Right to Information: you have the right to receive information about the name and qualification of your
treating doctor, your state of health, possible complications and its prevention, approximate cost of treatment,
treatment plan, use of medications, diet and nutrition and how to voice your complaint and you have the right
to access your clinical records.
Right to Consent: you have the right to give or withhold your consent for any proposed care. You have the
right to seek a second medical opinion before giving the consent. You have the right to refuse consent before
initiation of clinical research/ clinical trial.
Right to Choose/ participate: You have the right to know all your treatment options and to participate in
decisions about your care and you have rights to refuse the treatment.
Right to Privacy: You have the right receive reasonable privacy during consultation examination, treatment
and various investigations procedures. You have the right to have your healthcare information protected.
Information concerning one’s health and treatment may only be disclosed with informed consent, except when
required in terms of any law or an order of the court.
Right to Respect. You have the right to receive appropriate care regardless of race, culture, religion, age,
gender or physical ability and not to be subjected to any kind of abuse or neglect.
Right to Quality Care: You have the right to receive medical care in accordance with reasonably expected
professional standards of care.
PATIENT’S RESPONSIBILITIES
As a patient you have responsibility to:
1. Provide complete and accurate history and information about your health, including present condition, past illness,
hospitalisations, medications or any other matter that pertains to your health.
2. Provide complete and accurate information including full name, address and other relevant information.
3. Follow the prescribed treatment plan and carefully comply with the instructions given and attend follow up appointments as
requested.
4. Ask questions when you do not understand any information given by doctor or other members pf the health care team. Also
inform the doctor if you anticipate any problem in the prescribed treatment or are considering alternate/ complementary
therapies.
5. Accept responsibility for the decisions you make regarding the treatment.
6. Abide by all hospital rules and regulations:
a. Comply with the NO SMOKING policy
b. Comply with the visitor policies
c. Be considerate of noise levels, privacy and safety.
d. Weapons are prohibited on the premises.
e. Treat hospital staff, other patients and visitors with courtesy and respect.
7. Be on time for appointments and comply with the hospital OPD timings.
8. Do no take any medications on your own without the knowledge of the doctor or health care professionals.
9. Communicate with the health care provider if the patient’s condition worsens or does not follow the expected course.
10. Do not give medication prescribed for you to others.
11. Provide complete accurate information for insurance claims and work with hospital for processing claims and to make
payments if the same is denied.
12. Pay for services billed for in a timely manner as per the hospital policies.
13. Respect situations when another patient’s condition may be more urgent than yours and accept the doctor may need to
attend them first.
14. Understand the charter of right and seek clarification if any.
