What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, Go in peace; keep warm and well fed, but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action [stepping out], is dead. James 2: 14-17 Call it a leap of faith or stepping out of your comfort zone; we have all experienced it to some degree. The question is Do we take that leap of faith holding Gods hand or do we rely on our experiences and rational thought? Faith begins where one knows and has experienced the limitations of rational thought. Therefore, it is a leap into a paradox: I know by not knowing; I believe because I cannot know - but due to this unknowing, I have established a direct and unspeakable relationship with that which is beyond thinking, but which leads me in the relationship (God the Father). By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith. Hebrews 11:7 Talk about walking blindly or taking a leap of faith. If God told you to build an ark, would you rationally contemplate the request and decide to decline? OR would you take a leap INTO faith knowing that Gods hand was guiding your every step and revealing His Will for your life as you go along? How about leading His chosen people (some 5 million) on a journey with no plan, no provisions, no map (or GPS) to some unknown destination? Would you even consider sacrificing a loved one, say your child, to God because He asks you to do so? Tough questions; but as James (not me) said walking in faith without action is dead . . . it is useless . . . it is worthless. I seriously doubt God is asking us to build an ark, lead 5 million people on a journey or sacrifice a loved one, but he is asking us to step into faith with Him and through our deeds expand our boundaries (Jabezs Prayer - 1 Chronicles 4:10) asking the Holy Spirit to guide our steps as we minister to our family, friends, community and fellowman.
