Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) Metadata Flow
The Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) is a comprehensive database that collects, maintains,
and distributes data on hospital discharges across Canada. The database includes information on inpatient hospital stays and certain types of day surgery
cases.
Using DAD can lead to significant improvements in healthcare outcomes. It helps reduce readmission and mortality rates, enhance patient safety, and
shorten hospital stays, resulting in better patient recovery and reduced healthcare costs. Additionally, it promotes higher quality of care and more efficient
use of hospital resources.
