National Taiwan University 501 32320 - Reinforced Concrete

Dept. of Civil Engineering Instructor: Shyh-Jiann Hwang

Fall Semester 2023 Due: Oct. 9

Homework 5: Doubly reinforced beam and T beam

(5.1) A doubly reinforced beam has a section of b=40 cm, h=65 cm, and d=57 cm.
Tension reinforcement is made of 8-D25 rebars detailed in two layers with
dt=58.5cm and compression reinforcement is 2-D25 rebars with d’=6.5cm.
Given: f’c=350 kgf/cm2, fy=4,200 kgf/cm2.
Find: the nominal flexural strength Mn and the stress f’s of the compression
reinforcement.

(5.2) A T-beam with a span length of 300cm is shown below. The service positive
moments at the center of span are MD=10.0 tf-m and ML=28.8 tf-m.
Given: f’c=280 kgf/cm2, fy=4,200 kgf/cm2.
Find: the effective beam width “b” and the required tension reinforcement “As”.

(5.3) Given a simply supported beam with a span length of 6.0 m subjected to
service loads of wd = 1,000 kgf/m and wl = 2,500 kgf/m. The dimension of beam
is bh = 3040 cm and the material strengths are f c ' = 350kgf / cm 2 and
f y = 4,200kgf / cm2 . Design this doubly reinforced beam.
