Homework 3: Flexural analysis of beam
(3.1) A homogeneous rectangular beam section, subjected to pure bending, is made of
elastic-perfectly-plastic material, as shown in Fig. 1. Please calculate the values
of points “a”、”b”、and ”c” on the moment curvature curve in Fig. 1.

(3.2) A reinforced concrete beam has a section of b=40 cm, h=70 cm, d=63.5 cm and
5-D29 rebars with As=32.35 cm2.
Given: f’c=280 kgf/cm2, fy=4200 kgf/cm2.
Find: (a) Internal stresses induced within beam section by the external acting
moment M=12 tf-m, (b) Internal stresses induced within beam section by the
external acting moment M=24 tf-m, (c) Nominal flexural strength of this beam
section.
(3.3) Calculate the nominal flexure strength of the following beam section using the
Whitney Stress Block. Given: f’c=280 kgf/cm2, fy=4200 kgf/cm2.
