Directions: One of the focus of intellectual revolution is to highlight the different scientific ideas that
define the present society. Have you ever ask yourself about the relationship of science and society? With
this, answer briefly the following questions by writing on spaces provided: (5 points each)

1. As student, how do you see connection between science and society?

Science helps us live longer and healthier lives, keeps track of our health, provides medicine to treat
diseases, eases aches and pains, aids in the provision of water for our basic needs, including our
food, gives us energy, and makes life more enjoyable through sports, music, entertainment, and
cutting-edge communication technology.

Science provides answers to problems in daily life and aids in our quest to unravel the cosmos'
greatest mysteries. It performs a number of tasks for the benefit of our society, including
developing new information, enhancing education, and raising the standard of living.
Governments and the general public both need to become scientifically literate in order to meet the
problems of sustainable development. In order to empower people to make educated decisions
about their personal and professional lives, it is crucial that the public understands and engages
with science.

2. How science shaped the society?

Science's knowledge and worldview have an impact on society. Many people in society have their
perspectives about themselves, others, and the environment influenced by scientific information
and the methods used by scientists. Science's impact on society is neither wholly positive nor
entirely negative. Scientific questions are frequently sparked by societal issues, and the availability
of funds for study frequently determines what social issues should be prioritized.
Society values science because it may be used to better living conditions and meet a wide range of
fundamental human needs. Just two current examples include the search for a cancer cure and a
clean source of energy. Similar to this, research is frequently defended in front of the public as a
factor in economic progress, which is perceived as a payback for public spending. But over the last
few decades, another objective of science has emerged: to find a means to intelligently manage
natural resources to ensure both the continuity of civilization and their own existence. This
endeavor is now known as "sustainability."
