November 2023
Case Scenario:

In the vibrant world of beauty and cosmetics, the local make-up brand "GRWM"
(Get Ready With Me) is making waves with its unique products, known for their quality
and affordability. Recognizing the potential of TikTok as a powerful marketing tool,
"GRWM" embarked on a transformative journey to leverage the influence of TikTok
creators in promoting their products. "GRWM" strategically partnered with TikTok
influencers known for their makeup expertise, creativity, and large follower base. The
campaign unfolded over a six-week period, featuring a variety of content, including
makeup tutorials, product reviews, and engaging challenges, all under the campaign's
unique hashtag. Influencers were chosen based on their makeup skills, engagement
rates, and alignment with "GRWM's" brand ethos. The brand aimed for diversity in terms
of follower demographics, ensuring a broad and inclusive reach. Influencers were
encouraged to create engaging and authentic content showcasing "GRWM" products in
their unique styles. The campaign's hashtag was prominently featured to encourage
user-generated content and facilitate easy tracking. Key performance indicators
included reach, engagement, video views, user-generated content, and the conversion
rate on the "GRWM" website. TikTok's analytics tools were utilized to measure the
impact of the influencer-generated content on brand visibility and audience interaction.

I. Statement of the Problem

This case study aims to address and analyze several key problems and
challenges faced by the local make-up brand "GRWM" in utilizing TikTok influencers as
a promotional channel. It seeks to answer the following questions:

Major:
1. Is the investment in TikTok influencer collaborations yielding a measurable return
for "GRWM" in terms of increased sales and sustained customer interest?

2. To what extent does the authenticity and personal brand alignment of TikTok
influencers contribute to the success of the campaign?

3. Are there obstacles or challenges in converting TikTok engagement into actual

customer transactions?

Minor:
1. How successful has "GRWM" been in fostering a cohesive brand community on
TikTok?

2. How well-aligned are the selected TikTok influencers with the brand image and
values of "GRWM"?

3. Are there gaps in user engagement with "GRWM" content on TikTok?

II. Statement of Objectives:

The objectives of the study are divided into two (2) categories:

Must:
1. Assess how TikTok influencers contribute to increasing brand visibility,
engagement, and overall effectiveness in promoting "GRWM."
2. Assess changes in brand sentiment during and after the TikTok influencer
campaign, understanding how the influencers' content affects audience
perceptions and attitudes towards "GRWM."
3. Investigate how TikTok influencers help highlight and emphasize the unique
selling points and differentiators of "GRWM" within the highly competitive beauty
industry.

Wants:
1. Analyze how well TikTok influencers selected for the campaign represent diverse
backgrounds, styles, and beauty preferences, assessing the inclusivity and
relatability of the brand.
2. Explore the role of authenticity in influencer marketing for "GRWM," examining
how well influencers align with the brand's values and contribute to an authentic
representation.
3. Explore trends in user-generated content using the branded hashtag,
understanding the extent to which influencers inspire and encourage audience
participation in creating content related to "GRWM."

III. Areas of Consideration

1. Consider the demographics, engagement rates, and content style of TikTok

influencers to ensure alignment with the target audience and "GRWM's" brand
identity.
2. Select influencers that represent diverse backgrounds, styles, and beauty
preferences to ensure a broad appeal and inclusivity in the target audience.
3. Analyze the competitors in the beauty industry to identify unique selling points
and differentiators for "GRWM" that can be highlighted in influencer
collaborations.
4. Consider the variety of content formats, such as tutorials, challenges, and
user-generated content, to diversify the campaign and cater to different audience
preferences on TikTok.
IV. Alternative Course of Action

1. Diversified Influencer Mix

Advantages:
By diversifying the mix of influencers, "GRWM" can tap into different demographics and
reach a wider audience on TikTok. Including influencers with various styles,
backgrounds, and beauty preferences can contribute to a more inclusive representation,
aligning with diverse audience segments. It also avoids over-reliance on a specific style
or type of influencer and ensures that the brand resonates with a variety of TikTok
users.

Disadvantages:
Managing a diverse group of influencers may pose coordination challenges, potentially
leading to difficulties in aligning content with the overall campaign theme. Diversifying
influencers may also dilute the brand message, making it challenging to maintain a
consistent narrative throughout the campaign.

2. Specialized Challenge Campaigns

Advantages:
Launching specialized challenges related to "GRWM" products can encourage user
participation, creating a sense of community engagement. Engaging challenges have
the potential to go viral, amplifying the reach of the campaign as users share their
challenge submissions. Also, challenges provide opportunities for seamless brand
integration, allowing influencers to showcase products within the context of the
challenge.

Disadvantages:
Ensuring the sustainability and relevance of challenges over an extended campaign
period may be challenging. Also, not all influencers and users may actively participate in
challenges, leading to varying levels of engagement across the campaign.

3. Real-time Engagement Events

Advantages:
Hosting live events or Q&A sessions with influencers in real-time can foster direct
interaction between influencers and the audience. Real-time engagement also allows
for immediate feedback and responses, creating a dynamic and responsive campaign
environment. Lastly, live interactions contribute to the authenticity of the campaign, as
users witness genuine, unscripted moments.

Disadvantages:
Real-time events may encounter technical issues such as connectivity problems,
affecting the overall user experience. Additionally, events have a limited time frame, and
sustaining engagement throughout the entire campaign may be challenging. Most
importantly, the success of real-time events heavily relies on the availability and
commitment of influencers, which may vary.

V. Recommendation:

Among the proposed courses of action, real-time engagement events stand out
as the most viable option in promoting "GRWM". Real-time engagement events involve
hosting live sessions or events on TikTok where influencers interact directly with the
audience. This approach aims to create a dynamic and authentic connection between
the brand and its TikTok community. This method involves identifying influencers willing
to participate in live events and plan a schedule for these sessions. Utilize TikTok's live
streaming feature to host the real-time events and ensure that influencers and the
"GRWM" team are familiar with the platform's live streaming tools and functionalities.
Structure the live events to be engaging and interactive which could involve influencers
showcasing the application of "GRWM" products in real-time, answering audience
questions, and responding to comments and reactions. Also, seamlessly integrate
"GRWM" products by sharing tips and tricks and discussing the unique features of the
products. Leverage the live format to gather immediate feedback from the audience.
This feedback can be valuable for assessing the audience's preferences, addressing
concerns, and making real-time adjustments to the campaign. Lastly, save the live
events and create highlight reels or short clips that can be shared on TikTok after the
live session. This extends the reach of the content and allows users who missed the live
event to catch up.

VI. Plan of Action:

1. Define the target audience for "GRWM" products on TikTok. Consider

demographics, interests, and behaviors to tailor influencer selection and content
to the intended audience.
2. Develop criteria for influencer selection, considering factors such as follower
demographics, engagement rates, and alignment with "GRWM's" brand image.
Diversify the influencer mix to reach a broader audience.
3. Collaborate with influencers to create a diverse content strategy, encompassing
tutorials, challenges, product showcases, and behind-the-scenes content. Ensure
that the content aligns with both the influencer's style and "GRWM's" brand
identity.
4. Develop a detailed campaign timeline outlining key milestones, including
influencer onboarding, content creation, campaign launch, and post-campaign
analysis. Ensure alignment with product launches or promotional periods.
5. Build anticipation by creating promotional teasers on TikTok and other social
media platforms. Introduce the influencers involved, tease upcoming content, and
encourage users to follow the branded hashtag.
6. Launch the influencer campaign according to the defined timeline. Monitor
influencer content closely, ensuring it aligns with brand guidelines and resonates
with the target audience.
7. Incorporate real-time engagement events, such as live tutorials, Q&A sessions,
or product launches, to foster direct interaction between influencers and the
TikTok community.
8. Encourage user participation by introducing challenges, giveaways, and
opportunities for users to create and share content using the branded hashtag.
Showcase user-generated content as part of the campaign.
9. Conduct a comprehensive post-campaign analysis to evaluate the overall
success of the influencer marketing strategy. Analyze the impact on brand
visibility, engagement, and product sales.
10. Document the entire campaign process, including successes, challenges, and
learnings. Compile a detailed report summarizing the campaign's results,
including quantitative data and qualitative insights. Prepare a presentation to
share findings with key stakeholders, emphasizing the campaign's impact on
"GRWM's" brand promotion.

VII. Potential Problem

1. If influencers engage in controversial activities or make statements inconsistent

with "GRWM's" values, it could result in negative publicity for the brand.
2. Influencers produce content that does not align with the overall image and style
of "GRWM" products.
3. Inauthentic influencer content may fail to convince the audience to try or
purchase "GRWM" products, resulting in limited conversion rates and impact on
sales.
4. Influencers may struggle to seamlessly integrate "GRWM" products into their
content, making it appear forced or unnatural.

VIII. Contingency Plan of Action

1. Conduct a swift assessment of the influencer's content and address any

misalignment immediately. If necessary, discontinue collaboration and issue a
transparent statement to the audience.
2. Maintain a list of backup influencers who can step in if needed and adjust the
content strategy to seamlessly integrate replacement influencers. Communicate
transparently with the audience about any changes to the lineup.
3. Monitor comments closely and respond promptly with positivity and transparency.
Adjust the content strategy based on audience feedback while staying aligned
with the brand's values. Implement moderation tools to filter inappropriate
comments.
4. Provide clear guidelines on content quality expectations and if needed, offer
additional resources, such as professional editing support to influencers. Also,
regularly review influencer content and provide constructive feedback for
improvement.
5. Stay informed about current events and be prepared to pause or adjust the
campaign if necessary. Have pre-approved crisis communication strategies in
place.
