Introduction

Mata Pelajaran Umum 4 or known as MPU4 is one of the mandatory courses underdone by
students of Universiti Teknologi Petronas. It is a community service based project whereby
students will formed a group or an organization to rebuild or contribute to the society. In other
words, it is a non-paying occupation performed by one individual or a gathering of individuals
for the advantage of the network or its establishments. Community Service is unmistakable from
volunteering, since it isn't generally performed on a willful premise. Individual advantages might
be acknowledged, however it might be performed for an assortment of reasons including
citizenship necessities, a substitution of criminal equity sanctions, prerequisites of a school or
class, and imperatives for receipt of specific advantages.

Hence, to fulfill the segment a group of 10 is form along with a group of orphanage to contribute
a community service activity with a society named “Darussalam X UTP”. Darussalam is actually
the name of the orphanage to be collaborate along with few other organization like Kindness
Sarawak to participate in this project. “Darussalam X UTP” will be focusing mainly to develop
socio-economy of a society. For this case, our organization will be doing this activity at Kuching,
Sarawak. One of the main focus is to give a helping hand to rebuild a shelter for fellow family
members in that area. Not only that, we also give a hand to educate the children from the
orphanage in regarding the importance of helping those who are in need.

1.1. Background

The one serving might have the capacity to remove something from the experience and have the
capacity to utilize any recently discovered learning or relational revelations to enhance their future
bondage and the general population around them. To pick up the most from network benefit
requires adjusting learning with serving. Learning and serving in the meantime enhances an
understudy of locale while showing life exercises and building character. Hence, with the
involvement of “Darussalam X UTP” it equals the reason to educate the orphans and also the
participants from Universiti Teknologi Petronas to enhance their general involvement and
application openings they pick up from it.

By adding administration to learning, and adjusting the two, network administration can turn out
to be something beyond the basic demonstration of serving. It finds a way to make enormous
change and this is the thing that administration learning would like to accomplish. By being a
classroom, a hands-on learning background, and a chance to change the network, individuals can
serve, as well as effect themselves also. This is due to the fact that West Malaysia region of the
country is not as establish as Peninsular Malaysia. Therefore, it is a right idea to take the children
from Darussalam to take a spin at Kuching and at the same time to envelop the difference of
lifestyle and culture compare to Peninsular Malaysia.

All in all, it is believed that “Darussalam X UTP” has the potential to create bonds between the
organizing committees, the orphanage who participate to join the organizing committee to help the
family members and also the family members who were in need to seek for help. Not only that,
this organization also has the ability to mound and produce a better personality by helping the
others who needs it especially the orphanage as they will be the future leaders or contributors to
serve the nation.

1.3. Objectives (SMART)

There are few objectives targeted for this project:

 S : Expose the needy on lending hands to others (Orphans of Darussalam Home)

 M : Helping 2 or 3 houses which are in need for help in Kuching, Sarawak.
 A : Attain a high esteem in helping others by not overdoing a certain help
 R : Impact a mind which encourages social service
 T : To complete this project with a given time scheme (3days 2 nights).

4.0. Project Significance

This project has a multiple layers of significance implied. Our team has come up to an oriented
vision of not only helping the unfortunate to the bright side, but also teach them the importance
of helping others. We are bringing the few kids from Darussalam Orphanage to help out the
needy in Sarawak.

The usual routine going to the unfortunate to give them whatever we could is not really helping
them to be enlightened on aspects of betterment of life. Akin the saying of “Instead of giving
them fish, teach them how to fish”, we teach them what’s hardship. Only then, they realize rather
than only receiving, giving also is an important element to do.

Also, this project is also to equip the students with important criteria, which is, the ability to
apply soft skills knowledge, communication, critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership. All of
the above elements which were said are the elements which the kids will learn from our activity
during the event. The kids of Darussalam Orphanage will also learn confidence of facing new
challenges as experiencing helping others who is going through hardship.

The significance is also pointed to the activities we going to do in Kuching, Sarawak. Where we
will be going to homeless infested areas to give them a hand on what daily needs they deserve.
Also, visiting old folk’s homes to do house chores which eases their daily routine.

Creativity and Innovation

Creativity defined for the purpose of getting an imagination or a spirit turning an element into a
reality by a unique originality concept. To be very honest, creativity and innovation are very
similar elements. Creativity creates innovation.

In the usual context of social service, always have we intended to help the misfortunate? The
human brain always interprets to instantly help them. But instead, we have a different plan for it.
Instead of always helping the misfortunate, in this case it’s the kids in the Darussalam
Orphanage, we are going to show them what the real world out there is. Show them how
hardship is really a matter in this world. Make them realize. They only get sponsors and helping
hands every single time because they are regarded as “orphans”. They are used to accepting
helping hands. We need to change the perspective of the orphanage children. We want to show
them what “helping” really means.

The concept is simple. Instead of keep giving and giving to the orphanage kids, we plant a seed
in their hearts. A seed which whispers the aura of social service is for everyone in this world and
being an underprivileged is not an obstruction to become a social activist. Since this is a new
environment and scenario for the kids, they will be facing challenges during the social service
activity processes. This will innovate their minds to work on new things and also on how to solve
issues. Simple things like leadership and responsibility will be inculcated into their minds.
Making them to become more innovative towards helping each other.

Practicality
The practicality of this event is not a big issue. The way to transport the kids of Darussalam is
pretty easy as they are just nearby our place which is Gunung Rapat, Perak. Few kids from the
orphanage is brought by us to the area of help needed in Kuching, Sarawak. The transportation
involved will be cars and flight. The duration of stay will be 3 days 2 nights. The permission is
given by the owner of the orphanage home.

5.0. Conclusion

As a conclusion, the community social responsibility (CSR) between Universiti Teknologi

PETRONAS (UTP) and collaborators of this project will create a significant impact for everyone
by attaining the project objectives. The main goal of CSR is not to earn business and gain profit
blindly, but it is an ethical act. In other words, the decent actions came from purified mind and
thoughts throughout the journey of CSR. Darussalam X UTP project believes that the
participants and society involved will take a step forward towards worldwide integration in order
to become better human beings. In addition, plethora of opportunities and benefits will be
accessible to students in becoming a responsible citizen in order to grow success in life. Apart
from that, this project also will open the participants and students’ eyes about hardship and
difficulty faced by others who are more in need. Another thing to mention is, when looking back
at the condition of the society who are in need, we have realized how fortunate we are to have
complete and perfect needs such as proper education, food, and shelter. Furthermore, this project
also makes us aware that we are encourage to show love and support to orphanage kids of
Darussalam in order to make them more motivated in life.
