SOUTH SALT LAKE

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Message From The President, Steve Foote

December marks the final month of
the year 2011. The last eleven months have been filled with change. The South Salt Lake Chamber has successfully seen a change in leadership and staffing -- one that has implemented a solid strategic plan. This plan will position the Chamber and, by extension, its members, to adapt to the rapidly changing economy. It has allowed our members to enjoy the benefits of a progressive and revitalized organization that is committed to its members. Recently, the Chamber, in partnership with the City of South Salt Lake have raised the bar for the Citys business and economic development. The Chamber is armed with a bold new agreement that allows the Chamber greater access and input on the future development of South Salt Lake. This will firmly place the Chamber into a prime position to provide extensive outreach to the existing businesses; it will also facilitate the Chamber in guiding those businesses who wish to locate to South Salt Lake. We are coming to your door seeking input and delivering the latest news and information about business development, the direction the City is headed in terms of future economic development, and a host of other vital services important to your organization. We close out this year with strong indicators that our state and local economy is improving. Working in a cooperative environment with the state of Utah, Salt Lake County, South Salt Lake City, and our strong Chamber business coalition, we are weathering this storm and we are working together to achieve success that continues to allow us to be a beneficial voice for the businesses in South Salt Lake as the economy heads toward better days. With a new look, updated methods of communication, and strong leadership, you will see the Chamber striving to reach out to your business through regularly scheduled forums and meetings that will take place throughout the next year. These meetings will be structured to assess your see the about the local government, ordinances, housing, business development, business retention, and a myriad of other issues that are important to you. These meetings will be scheduled at your convenience so that you can stay informed on the development of the businesses in the community, as well as being able to voice the needs of your business. The economic engine of The City of South Salt Lake is fueled and driven by our business community. The strategic plan that has been adopted by the Chamber is one that the City and our business partners support. South Salt Lake is on a very determined path of revitalization and renewed economic vitality. The Office of the Mayor, City Council, and the Citys administrative staff are working with our Board of Governors to bring about the kind of change that is vital to our success. You are heavily invested in this community and the importance of that investment shall not be overlooked. As we close out the year 2011, we welcome the abundant opportunities that the next year will bring. We encourage all businesses in South Salt Lake to stay engaged and be a part of the important process of building a new path for the City. Best wishes to you and your families during this busy holiday season. If your travels bring you near the Chamber offices, please take a moment to stop in and say hello. Message From the Chairman

It has been my distinct honor to have served as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the South Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce this past year. The end of the month will mark the end of my tenure as Chairman and I will assume the role as Ex-Officio. I can proudly say that our Chamber has made remarkable progress in the past year and I am extremely encouraged with what lies ahead for our City. I have been extremely fortunate to have served with a very dedicated and loyal Board as well as the Citys elected officials and our Chamber staff. We have faced a number of challenges this past year but I can say that we have met these challenges head on and we are a stronger organization today simply because we worked together as a valuable insight as to the future of the City of South Salt Lake. As a Chamber, we are an important part of the process to build upon the success of our past and take advantage of rare opportunities that will indeed change the face of the City and provide for expansive business growth and development. Now more than ever, the Chamber will be an important partner to your business and you will see the results of months of internal changes that will make your membership in the Chamber invaluable. The Board of Governors will be welcoming a few new members as we bid farewell to retiring Board member Reed Fisher. North American Title Company

Company Bio: North American Title is new to the State of Utah, but not new to the industry. Neither are the employees that we have assembled. Out of our 17 employees, we have an average of 15 years each in the title industry! North American Title moved to Utah with optimism, knowing that this business environment is among the most positive and business friendly states in the country. North American Title brings an important distinction to Utah with all of our Title research being compiled and completed locally. We are excited to be a part of Utah's future and are pleased to bring precious jobs to the State. Pattie DeNunzio, with over 30 years in the local title business and the Salt Lake area Account Executive, quotes Richard White, Region President, that the company has a high degree of condence in the Utah marketplace and views the timing of this expansion in concert with the gradual improvement of the national and local economies. North American Title can provide real estate settlement services in all 50 states. North American Title is not a direct operation of a publicly-traded national title insurance underwriter, but rather, as an independent title agency, North American Title is an agent of many major national title insurance underwriters. When customers place an order with North American Title they can rest assured that they will be provided with the best title insurance products. available in the industry!

Merry Christmas From The Chamber!

Update From The City

In December 2010, the South Salt Lake City Council adopted a new General Plan for the City. This document sets a land use vision for the city for the next ten years. The general plan recommends specific goals and objectives for such issues as land use, housing, economic development, transportation and parks and recreation. The next step in implementing the General Plan is to review, update and adopt new zoning and subdivision regulations for the City. Over the next year the City will be updating these regulations and will be asking for monthly input from the business community. The City will seek input on such items as appropriate uses in each zone of the City, parking, landscaping and design guidelines and requirements for new building construction. The City and Chamber are sponsoring an hour long lunch meeting for the City to receive feedback on proposed ordinances and receive recommendations from the business community. Our first meeting will be held on January 12, 2012 at South Salt Lake City Hall. If you are interested in attending one of these monthly lunch meetings please contact Michael Florence at (801) 412-3225 or mflorence@[Link]

This Months Value Is...

Generosity

Generosity: The liberality or willingness in giving; unselfishness. Being thoughtful of the needs of others "Generosity is giving more than you can, and pride is taking less than you need."Khalil Gibran Generosity is not giving me that which I need more than you do, but it is giving me that which you need more than I do. What is it that makes a person thankful and why is it that we often only acknowledge our appreciation for what is important in our lives around the holidays? While it's true that we shouldn't only be thankful at the end of the year, it's actually a very good time to talk to your children about the concept and why it is so important.
