1.0 SECTION: PURPOSE
This procedure covers the work method for mixing, application of plaster, finishing and
Curing of plaster surface in accordance with, these method statements and in conformity with the
Lines, level and dimensions,
2.0 SECTION: SCOPE
The scope covers the work method for surface preparation, mixing, application, finishing
and curing of plaster surface for all masonry, RCC items of structures, Brick/Block masonry wall
ete, complete.
3.0 SECTION: REFERANCES
a) I8:383- Specification for coarse & fine aggregates for natural source for concrete,
b) IS; 1661-1972 Code of practice for application of Cement-Lime plaster finishes,
©) IS: 2250-1981 Code of Practice for preparation & use of Masonry Mortars.
d) JS: 2547 Parti & 2 Specification for Gypsum Building Plasters.

4.0 SECTION: METHODOLOGY
4.1 Materials:
a) All ingredient of plastering work shall be confirming to relevant 1S Codes / Contract
Specification
b) Cement shall be OPC grade 43 & 53 OR Portland Slag Cement respectively confirming to
IS: 8112 & IS 12269 OR IS 455,
c) Crushed Sand/Natural Sand — Sand shal] be confosming to 1S: 1542-1992. Sand-shall be used,OJECTS LIMITED

42.1 Concrete surface shall be roughened for proper bonding hacking should be done @1"C/C
(Min.50 to35 hacks per [Link])
4.2.2 All the nails, binding wires, concrete projections & wooden pieces shall be removed from
concrete surface & brick masonry
42.3. Clearance shall be taken from the PHE & MEP Engineer
42.4 Allthe dust, oil spots & green algae if any shall be cleaned fiom concrete & brick
masonry surface with the help of wire brush.
4.2.5. The background shall be suitably wetted 1Ominutes prior to plastering, to displace
trapped air & to facilitate that the plaster has good contact & bonding with background

43.2. The wall is marked with level strips, vertically at 1200mm centers, then check the
Straight edge or line by using aluminum square tube. The high spots on walls are
Identified and minimum level in 6mm thickness is marked 10 contol the thickness of

43.3. Gypsum plaster or POP shall be start fiom top to vertically downward,
43.4 Fiber mesh should be laid where RCC & Brick joints are coming (Fiber mesh offset to be
minimum 75mm from center of joint)
4.3.5 When plastering on vertical surfaces, to ensure even thickness and a true surface, Plaster
is done to serve as gauges (Bull Marks), from the adjacent susface of these gauged arcas
shall be truly in plane of finished plaster surface.
43.6 Thickness of the plastering shall be taken as per actual site conditions for preceding
gypsum plaster work.
43.7 Mix Gypsum plaster/POP to water (not vice versa) to have workable consistency, use a
ing rod for thorough mixing and avoid lumps and unmixed residues.
4.3.8 Water to plaster ratio (As per Technical Data Sheet) shall be maintained as to have good
cohesive workable mix.
43.9. Mix Gypsum plasters/POP as much as required depending upon the immediate scope of
work, partially used material to be kept well secured in dry place.
43.10 Once the mix has begun to set, additional water is not to be added, as performance
properties of plaster will get altered, thus affecting workability, cohesiveness, adhesion
properties and strength.
43.11 Gypsum/POP shall be applied in a uniform surface slightly more than the specified
thickness and brought to a true surface, by working a Aluminum straight edge reaching
across the gauges, with small upward and sideways movement at a time,
43.12. Avoid using a wet brush on to the finished surface, as that would leave permanent brush
marks and thus spoil the surface
4.3.13 A single coat should not exceed 15mm in thickness, if at all thickness required is more
than 15 mm, plaster is to be applied in multiple coats, (As per Product Specifications).] TATA PROJECTS LIMITED

4.3.14 After complete drying usually 72 hrs. (Depending on the thickness and weather
conditions), the plain smooth leveled surface is ready for painting
4.3.15 No water curing required for gypsum plaster/POP
B) For 18mm thick External wall:
4.3.16 Plaster to columns/walls & masonry walls shall be 18mm thick in a double coat.
43.17 Apply @ coat of rich Cement slurry at rate of [Link]/sqm at joints of RCC & Masonry
surface wherever applicable before starting the plastering,
43.18 Ordinary Portland cement of 43 Grade or 53 Grade and Medium coarse/fine crushed
mixed in proportion (1:5) for first coat of 12mm thick and 6mm thick in cement sand
mortar of mix ratio (1:6).
43.19 The ingredients shall be mixed in specific proportions by volume.
43.20 The mixing shall be done in a mechanical mixer or by hand mixing in [Link] or as per
suitable means
43.21 The cement and sand shall first be mixed thoroughly dry in the mixer/ in M.S, Tray.
43.22 Water shalll then be added geadually and wet mixing continued for at least a minute until
mortar attains the consistency ofa stiff paste and uniform color.
43.23 Mortar shall be used within 30 minutes of addition of water.
©) For 12mm thick Plaster on Soffit of the Baleony:
4.3.24 Plaster to Soffit of the balcony shall be of 12mm thick
4.3.25 Apply a coat of rich Cement slurry at rate of 2.5Kg/sqm at joints of RCC & Masonry
| surface wherever applicable before starting the plastering
4.3.26 Ordinary Portland cement of 43 Grade or 53 Grade and Medium coarse/fine crushed
mixed in proportion (1:4)

4.3.32 Plaster to shaft & Plumbing shaft shall be of 12mm thick
4.3.33 RCC surface preparation to be done as specified
4.3.34 Ordinary Portland cement of 43 Grade or 53 Grade and Medium coarse/fine crushed
mixed in proportion (1:6) with Integral water proofing as per required dosage as per
approved vendor
4.3.35 The ingredients shall be mixed in specific proportions by volume.
43.36. The mixing shall be done in a mechanical mixer or by hand mixing in [Link] or as per
suitable means
43.37 The cement and sand shall first be mixed thoroughly dry in the mixer/ in M.S. Tray.
43.38 Water shall then be added gradually and wet mixing continued for at least a minute until
mortar attains the consistency of a stiff paste and uniform color.
4.3.39 Mortar shall be used within 30 minutes of addition of water
44 Scaffolding:
4.4.1 Stage scaffolding shall be provided for the plastering work. No wooden scaffolding is
allowed.
4.5 Application of Plaster:
4.5.1 Plastering shall be done where shown on the drawing or specifications,

Filled in advance of the plastering while the scaffolding is being taken down.
In case of plastering of the walls, approx. 50mm x SOmm x 12mm thick, cement mortar
Mix shall be placed at 1m to 2m spacing on the wall, which shall be referred as level
gauge patches or ‘Level Dot’. For ‘Level Dots’ cement mortar of same mix with
sufficient amount of water, shall be applied to the wall to ensure that the plaster adheres
to the wall
It shall be checked according to ‘Level Dots’, if chipping of bulged concrete is required
If plaster exceeds 20 mm the same should be done in two coats
The mortar shall be laid on the wall between the screed using the plaster’s float and
pressing the mortar so that the raked joints are properly filled
The plastering surfaces shall be well scored to form properly & kept wet for two days
expect AAC block surface, for AAC Block surface water should be sprinkled before one
hour of plastering
The mason shall possess proper tools such as hacking tool, masons trowel, pan, plumb
bob, mason’s square and nylon line string, Aluminum float with proper edge and perfect
rectangular and similar wooden float
The mason shall cheek the plumb of door/ window frame, by a plumb bob, before starting
the plastering work. All hackings (skin removal 3mm deep) on concrete surfaces shall be
checked for adequacy ~ mechanical key. The spacing shall not be more than 12 tol mm
apart as per approved sample.
Care shall be taken that suitable allowance for fixing skirting shall be kept
Finally, the surface shall be finished off with a plaster wooden float or Aluminum Metal
floats shall be used.
Cleaning: After plastering on the same day following items shaill be cleaned: Floor, Door
frames, Electrical boxes, Window, Sub Frame, External chajjas & Tra
