Module 1 The Planet Earth
Setting your Goal
At the end of the lesson, you shall be able to describe the different parts of the planet
Earth.
The planet Earth is where animals and plants live.
In this lesson, you will learn about the Earth’s parts
that help all living organisms to live, grow, and survive.
Ready to Engage
You probably already know many things about the planet Earth because Earth is the
planet where we live
The EARTH is unique among the planets because it is the only planet that can sustain
life.
It has a water surface that allows life to possibly exist
Explore Now
The planet Earth is made up of three parts: air, water, and land
More than 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by oceans. That means that
the ocean are more than twice the size of all the land on Earth.
Because the Earth has so much water on it, it is sometimes called the “Blue
Planet”. Can you color it?

The Lithosphere
The land of the Earth is called the lithosphere. It is covered with rocks, soil
and landforms.
It consists of the crust and the top of the mantle.
The lithosphere includes all the landforms on earth.
Mountains, volcanoes, valleys, and hills are all part of the lithosphere.
Mountains are landforms that stick up high above the sorrounding land.
2|Page
Hills are a naturally raised area of land, smaller than a mountain.
A volcano is a mountain with a large, circular hole at the top through which lava comes
out.
The Hydrosphere
The hydrosphere is the part of a planet that is made of water
Oceans, Rivers, lakes and clouds, are all typically included in the hydrosphere
3|Page
An ocean is a body of salt water that composes much of a planet’s hydrosphere.
A river is a large natural flow of water that crosses an area of land and goes into a lake or an
ocean.
A lake is a large body of water surrounded by land.

The Atmosphere
The envelope of gases surrounding the planet Earth is called the atmosphere. The
atmosphere is very important to all life forms of Earth.
The atmosphere protects the planet
from the impacts of asteroids
The atmosphere protects Earth by absorbing the heat from the Sun and keeps the heat
inside the atmosphere helping the Earth to stay warm.
The atmosphere keeps the normal temperature of the planet. It makes sure that we
don’t get too cold at night and too hot during the day.

Seven Continents of the World
Continents are very large landmasses found on Earth. The Earth has seven continents:
Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Australia, and Antarctica.
Asia
Asia is the world’s largest and most populous continent on Earth.
Philippines is found in Asia.
Africa
Africa is the second largest and the second most populated continent in the world.
North America 6|Page
North America is the third largest continent. It is surrounded by four bodies of water.
South America
South America is the found the largest continent. It is also the fifth most populous
continent.
South America is the home to world’s highest waterfall and longest mountain range
Antarctica 7|Page
Antarctica is the fifth largest continent in area.
About 98% of Antarctica is covered by ice that averages about 1.6 kilometers in
thickness.
It is the coldest, driest, and wildest continent.
Europe
Europe is the world’s second-smallest continent by surface area. It covers about 6.8% of
the Earth’s surface area.
8|Page
Australia
Australia is the smallest and lowest-lying human-inhabited continent on Earth.
As Australia is mostly on a single landmass, it is also referred to as an “island” continent,
surrounded by oceans.

Module 2 Protecting Planet Earth
Setting your Goal
At the end of the lesson, you shall be able to practice ways on how to protect and
save planet Earth.
We live in planet Erath. It is the only planet that can sustain life. But people do many
things that destroy the planet. In this lesson, you will learn the ways on how to protect
planet earth.

We live in a wonderful world. A planet that is full of life, full of color, and full of beauty.
But people do many harmful things that destroy the only planet that we call home.
What people can do to protect and save our only home?
We can do something for our planet.
We still have the time to save it from
destruction if we will work together.
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle 11 | P a g e
Practice the 3Rs.
Reduce Reuse Reduce

Always remember to put items in the correc bins.
Always reduce the amount of watse and reuse it when possible.
Clean and Green Earth
12 | P a g e
Invite your family and friends to help you clean the sorrounding.
Ask people to make others the importance of preserving out natural resources.
Ask your family and friends to help you plant more trees
Save Our Resources
13 | P a g e
Waste no water, paper, gas, electricity or food.
Water is life, but our planet is running out of clean drinking water
Turn off the faucet when nobody is using it.
Use just enough water when taking a bath.
Module 3 The Glowing Sun
Setting your Goal
14 | P a g e
At the end of the lesson, you shall be able to identify the characteristics and uses of
the sun.
The sun is the closest star to our planet Earth. In this lesson, you will learn about the
characteristics and uses of the sun.
Ready to Engage
The sun is a star that gives the Earth with light and heat.
The sun is bright object that gives off light by energy produced in its core.
The sun is the star that found at the center of the solar system.
Explore Now
The Sun is our nearest star. It provides us with light and heat.
15 | P a g e
Without the Sun there would be no daylight, and our planet would simply be a dark,
frozen world, with no oceans of liquid water and no life.
From Earth, the Sun looks like it moves across the sky in the daytime and appears to
disappear at night.
This is because the Earth is spinning towards the east.
Although the sun seems small when seen at sunrise or sunset, this is only because the
Sun lies about 150 million km away from us.
16 | P a g e
Our sun is not unique in the universe.
It is common middle-sized yellow star, which scientists have symbol named Sol, after
the ancient Roman name.
This is why our system of planet is called the Solar System.
The Sun and Its Use
The heat of the sun helps people to dry their clothes
Sunlight is an important element in order for plants to make its own food through
photosynthesis.
All living things get energy from the sun. It keeps our planet warm. It helps us live
and survive
The sun is the main source of energy of light for the planet earth. Without the sun,
Earth would be a dark and frozen planet.
Module 4 The Moon
Setting your Goal
17 | P a g e
At the end of the lesson, you shall be able to identify the characteristics of the moon.
The moon is the Earth’s nearest neighbor in space. In this lesson, you will learn about the
characteristics of the moon.
Ready to Engage
Look up in the night sky.
On a clear night, if you are lucky,
you will catch a glimpse of the Moon shinning in all its glory.
The moon is the second brightest object in the sky after the sun. However, the moon
does not have its own light. It only reflects the light it gets from the sun.
Explore Now
The moon is Earth’s only natural satellite.
18 | P a g e
A natural satellite is any kind of celestial body that rotates, or actually, orbits around a
planet.
The moon is the only satellite that rotates around our planet and it takes 28 days to
completely go around the Earth.
The moon is a cold, dry boy whose surface is covered with craters. The same side of the
moon always faces the Earth.
Niel Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on NASA’S Apollo 11 mission,
which also included Michael Collins,
were the first people to walk on the moon,
on July 20, 1969.
When we observe the Moon along a period of time it appears to change shape. These
changes in appearance are called lunar phases and they repeat every 28 days.
19 | P a g e
There are four:
full moon, first quarter, new moon and last quarter.
The Moon phases are produce by two reasons:
The movement of the moon around the earth and because the moon reflects light form
the sun as a mirror.
New Moon
In this phase the Moon is passing between the Earth and the Sun. The illuminated face of
the Moon is facing the opposite direction to Earth.
The dark side ends up facing the Earth, and this is why we cannot see the Moon.
First Quarter
20 | P a g e
You can see it approximately one week after the new Moon. One-half of the illuminated
side faces the Earth.
It is called the first quarter because, from the new Moon phase, the zone illuminated by
the sun grows every time.
Full Moon
Approximately a week after the first quarter, we can see the whole Moon illuminated.
The Earth is between the Moon and the sun and we can see it fully.
Last Quarter
21 | P a g e
The Moon presents its other half face illuminated.
The name of the last quarter comes from the fact that the illuminated side becomes
smaller and smaller each time.
Effects of Moon on Earth
The Moon is 4 times than the Earth, but it is very important for the sustainability of life in
our planet.
The moon generates tides: High tide or Low tide.
A tide is the rise and fall of the sea level
They occur every 6 hours approximately.
