SUMMARY
This Internship Report about reviewing DKV Major students internship period during
January-May 2023. It contains about DKV, subtype works influenced by DKV based on the
students’ report. It also provides certain recommendations, guides and tips for preparation
prior to the internship program phase.

I. INTRODUCTION
A. PKL
The purpose of this report is reviewing the students activities during the students
vocational school’s internship program in the 2023 January-May periode. How it influenced
the students' skill and what is the benefit the students got in the last internship program.
PKL (Praktek Kerja Lapangan) or On the Job Training is part of the required educational
system for Vocational School students. One of module training to teach students certain
fields of materials based on the students’ major which the students need to learn about. It
provides students with acknowledgements of what the students need to know about
industrial works. The industry environment where the students work also has a role to
influence how the students understand of the students’ major field. It also gives the benefit
between the school and the industry to build a good relationship while monitoring the
students' development.

B. DKV
DKV (Desain Komunikasi Visual) or Visual Communication Design is one of the
Vocational majors of SMKN 4 Pekanbaru. Visual communication design is the process of
creating visual messages through the use of typography, images, and layout. It is a form of
communication that can be used to convey a wide range of messages, from branding and
marketing to information graphics and web design. Visual communication design is an
important tool for businesses and organizations to communicate with their audiences. Visual
communication design involves understanding the principles of design, as well as the
psychology of color and perception. Good visual communication design makes information
easy to understand and engaging to look at.

II. BODY OF THE REPORT
There are certain competencies which specialized in Visual Communication Design
major Internship.
1. Advertising
In advertising, this is known as “the art of persuasion.” It can be used to
persuade, inform, or entertain an audience. Images and videos are often used
to create an emotional response in the viewer. It can also be used to create a
sense of community among viewers.

◆ Print Advertising
Advertisements that are printed in hard copy in publications
(newspapers, magazines, journals) likely to be read by your
target audience.
◆ Banner Printing
A type of poster printing that caters for those looking for wide
format printing or large format printing. Used across a diverse
range of industries in a wide variety of applications,
◆ Company Profile
A company profile introduces a business's mission, goals,
vision, and history. In most cases, a profile includes an 'About
Us' section that narrates how the company was founded, its
why's, and a section that introduces leadership team members.

2. Photography
Photography in design can be more impactful than graphics or illustration as it
communicates the message with a sense of realism, and often packs more of
a visual punch. Photography is a form of visual communication; it
communicates to viewers without voice but with messages. Every message
from the image brings education to the minds of the viewers.

◆ Color Grading
Color grading is the process of manipulating the color tone of
an image to create a certain mood. Color grading is done
through a photo editor or video editor by adjusting the hue,
saturation, highlights, and other elements.
◆ Exposure Triangle
The exposure “triangle” represents the three camera settings
that control the exposure: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO to
balance these three settings harmoniously in order to properly
expose the scene in front based on the amount of available
light.

3. Printing
Print visual communication is a tool that can be used to create a positive
image for business. It could communicate the brand message to customers
and prospects in a clear, concise way. Print visuals also have the potential to
reach a large audience quickly and at a low cost.

◆ Stickers Cutting
Sticker Cutting is contour cut type which means the cut traces
the shape of the sticker’s outline design so it's flexible and
could be applied in various media.
◆ Nametags
Name badges are communication tools that facilitate
connection between strangers. They reduce friction by
exposing identification information about the people wearing
them.
◆ Calendar Print
Calendars provide an opportunity for companies to showcase
their brand and promote their products or services. Graphic
designers can use the design of a calendar to incorporate a
company's branding elements such as colors, logos, and
taglines.
◆ Lanyards
Custom lanyards are lanyards that are personalized with
unique patterns, messages, or materials. Custom lanyards
may vary in style, design, and materials depending on the end
purpose of the lanyard.
◆ Stickers Design
Sticker design is much like a subcategory of label design
because they are both printed materials that contain
information about a brand or product. It's been used as an
easy and inexpensive way to put vital information onto the
product or its packaging, or just as an embellishment for
aesthetic purposes.

III. CONCLUSION AND
RECOMMENDATION
During the previous internship which was held in the 2023 January-May period, here
are some reports by the students.
The student who works in advertising learned about Adobe Photoshop software and its
usage. The students are requested to do certain designs such as Print Advertising, Banner
Printing and Company Profile. The other students who worked at Photography Studio get
provided to learn about Colour Grading and Exposure Triangle. The last student which
worked at Printing reported the student learned about Sticker Cutting, Nametags, Calendar
Printing, Lanyards and Sticker Designs.
For the junior students who will have an internship program, students need to be
provided by the school’s party, major’s teachers and sufficient major’s educational materials.
Those above mentioned tips need to be remembered. Moreover, not only related to
internship, it also privileged the students to have an internship program smoothly and
succesful. And for the school party, it would be more efficient if the students’ workplace was
not far from the students’ house or let the students choose by the students self.
These are some tips for the junior students:
1. Obey the school’s internship rules, it will ease the students during the period.
2. Maintain good name of the school
3. Not cause any trouble which leads to dissappointment
In conclusion, choose the workplace which is suitable for the student to learn. Based
on the student’s skills and competition. There are more tips that need to be considered, one
of them is how the students could adapt in the workplace environment.
