About SAP
SAP is a German multinational software company known for making enterprise software
to manage business operations.

SAP stands for Systems, Applications and Products for Data Processing.

SAP started in 1972 with five ex‐IBM employees, as a small software company in
Germany with just one customer. Now the company has over 291,000 customers in over
190 countries and more than 70,000 employees.

It is the most valued company in the German Stock Exchange having overtaken industry
heavyweights such as Volkswagen and Siemens.

What is SAP R/3, SAP ERP


The SAP R/3 System has a three‐tier client/server architecture. R – Real Time Data
Processing and 3 for the three‐tier structure. It is the old name given to the SAP’s ERP
architecture. The new name is simply called SAP ERP.

FI – Financial Accounting – Manages the financial General Ledger (GL)
transactions of the organization.

Financial transactions are recorded in the Balance Accounts Payable (AP)

Hence, the subcomponents of this module is Accounts Receivable (AR)


aligned with the Balance Sheet and Income
