I OBJECTIVES
Content Standard: Effects of applied social sciences
Performance Standard: Participate in a one-day exposure trip to an existing development
program and write a sincere reflection report on the effects of the
processes on the clientele

Analyse the effects of applied social sciences processes on
individuals, groups, and society
Knowledge: Identify the four aspects of one’s self through Johari’s Window;
Skills Show participation through filling out the Johari’s Window and
share insights through groups; and
Attitude Appreciate how self-understanding contributes in having
harmonious relationship communication with the group

Motivational Question: Have you tried asking yourself?
What are some of the questions you probably ask?
A. Activity Divide the class into 4 groups, the teacher will present the Johari
Window Activity:
1. Teacher presents the Johari Window activity as a tool for Self
Understanding.
2. Teacher Distributes the Johari Window photocopies
3. Teacher Explains the Contents of the Johari Window:
[Link]-Things that we know about ourselves and others as
well.
b. Blind-Things that we do not know but others do.
[Link]-Things that we know about ourselves but others
don’t.
[Link]- Things that we do not know and others as well.
MOVE-AROUND
Students will move around to allow 4 to 6 classmates write on the
“Blind” window. (2mins)
DIAD – For the “Hidden” Window, students will approach 1
classmate whom he or she is comfortable with. Note that students
will only have to disclose what they want to.
B. Analysis Class will be asked :
1. What did you feel before, during, and after the Johari Window
Activity?.
2. What level/levels of communication used during the process of
Activity?
3. What do you think is the best form of social work that employs
methods such as this? Why?
C. Abstraction The teacher will discuss about Self-Understanding
The teacher will also discuss how counselling helps a person
For many people, counseling is something they are both
comfortable with and find to be a normal part of their life. On the
other hand, there are those that are uneasy about speaking with a
complete stranger about life's concerns.
D. Application Each group will be assigned to answer the following questions:
GROUP 1: How does the Johari Window contribute to the
awareness and knowledge of one’s self?
GROUP 2: Why does self-understanding important in relating
within a particular group? GROUP 3: How does counselling then
contribute to the society?
E. Practical Applications of How do we use our ideas on self-understanding in our daily
concepts and skills in daily living living?
Our self-concept is important because it influences how we
think, feel, and act ineveryday organizational life. ... The self-
concept is, of course, only one of many factors that affect
managerial thinking, feeling, and behavior, but it is
undoubtedly one of the most powerful influences on many
important behaviors.
F. Generalization Self awareness is important because when we have a
better understanding of ourselves, we are able to
experience ourselves as unique and separate individuals. We
are then empowered to make changes and to build on our
areas of strength as well as identify areas where we would
like to make improvements.
G. Evaluation Make an analysis of the effect of a particular counselling method in
self-understanding and come up with a generalization of its
importance in relating within a group and society
