A. Review
Topic: Constant, Variables, Algebraic Expression
(Oral participation)

The teacher show a visual aids that contain a question and call two
learners to answer each question.

[Link] of the following is a monomial expression?

a.) 4x2+x+2 b.)4xy c.) 4x+6

[Link] of the following is a binomial expression?

a.)10a2+b+c+5 b.)120c+10 c.)10xy+x+y+4

3. Which of the following is not a polynomial?

a.) 3x2+2x-5 b.) 4x-2y+4x+12 c.)3x2+2x+3

[Link] what is the constant and the variables in the given problem.

 10a2+12b+c+5
Constant = 5
Variables = a2,b
5. Which of the following is/are algebraic expression?
 a.) 4x2+x+2 b.) 3x2+2x+3 c. 10a2+12b+c+5

B. Motivation

 The teacher will present some emoticon words using flash cards.
 The teacher will call one learner to perform the emoticon that he/ she is
going to present or show.
 The learner who performed first, will call another classmate to perform on
the next emoticon that will be show by the teacher.
Here are the words;
a. Winking
b. Laughing
c. Sad
d. Smiling
e. Yawning
f. Mad

The EMOTICONS:
Winking Laughing Sad Smiling Yawning Mad

C. Presentation

In Mathematics, what do these symbols mean?

Examples:

a.) a number (a) divided to 9 is 2

a
Answer: 9 = 2
b.) The difference of 200x and 50x is 150

Answer: 200x-50x = 150x

c.) The product of 4x and 5y is 20xy

Answer : (4x)(5y)=20xy

d.) 30x decreased by 65

Answer: 65-30x

e.) 25 times a number (g)

Answer : 25(g)

E. Generalization (written & oral interaction)

 The teacher will give 5 minutes to the learners to write the answer
on a ½ sheet of intermediate paper.
 They are going to pass it to the teacher and the teacher will choose 5
learners to explain their answer

Question: How are you going to express verbal phrases into symbols?
And relate into the real life situation?

In order to express the verbal phrases into symbols, we must familiarize

the words that indicate into its mathematical operation like the
words that belong in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In
real life situation, our life is like mathematics, it uses mathematical
expression. We human uses symbols and gesture to express our emotions
and feelings like smile, it means that you are happy, sad when you are
lonely and many others. Symbols often used to express a message or
feelings. We should be careful the way we act, because not everybody
know who we are, somehow people around us will misinterpret the way we
act.
F. Application (Board work)

 The teacher will call one learner to answer the first problem and if
she/he gets the correct answer, he/she will be the one to choose
who will answer in the second problem.
 The learner will choose a classmate to answer on the next problem if
she/he got the answer correctly.
 If the learner did not get the correct answer he/ she will write 5
example of algebraic expression and its mathematical translation
and pass it together with their assignment on the next meeting

Direction: Matching Type. Match your answer on the other column.

Translate the verbal phrases into algebraic expressions

Column A Column B

1. the sum of x and y a. b-10

2. 6 more than a b. x+y

3. Twice m c. a+6

4. The difference of b and 10 d. 2m

5. 9 less than z e. z-9

IV. Evaluation (Paper-pencil-test)

Instruction: On your ½ sheet of paper crosswise, answer directly the following.

Translate the verbal phrases into algebraic expressions.

1. Four times the sum of a and b

2. The sum of 5 and c
3. 10a decreased by 3
4. The product of x and y
5. 10 divided by s
6. 5 more than a
7. The difference of b and c is 24
8. The ratio of water to milk is 4 by 8
9. 6 x multiplied by the difference of a and b
10. 15 less than 8 multiplied to c

Solutions:

1. 4 (a+b) 6. 5+a
2. 5+c 7. b-c = 24
3. 10a-3 8. 4/8
4. Xy 9. 6x (a-b )
5. 10/s 10. 15 – 8 (c )

V. Assignment
