METHODOLOGY
The approaches used in this study can be viewed in this chapter such as the Research
Design, Research Participants, Research Locale, Research Instrument, Data Gathering Procedure,
Data Analysis, and Ethical Consideration.
Research Design

This study aimed to determine the learning behavior of the college students in Legacy
College of Compostela. Thus, this study makes use of qualitative inquiry by using a
phenomenological qualitative research design. A phenomenology is an approach to qualitative
research that focuses on the commonality of a lived experience within a particular group.
Typically, interviews are conducted with a group of individuals who have first-hand knowledge of
an event, situation, or experience. The purpose of this approach is to study a certain phenomenon
as it was perceived and experienced by the participants, to have in-depth knowledge about the
situation (Guilbeau, 2014).
Research Participants
For the selection of the participants, the researchers employed and utilized the Purposive
Sampling. Purposive sampling is a sampling method wherein the researchers rely on their
judgment when selecting members of the population to participate in the study (Business Research
Methodology, n.d.).
According to Neubauer (2019), phenomenological research design focuses on the study of
an individual’s lived experience within the world. It required at least 5 research participants and at
most 25 research participants. The chosen participants for this study will be the selected students
of Legacy College of Compostela with different courses and levels. Their active participation in
the interview is very important in gathering the needed data for this study.
During the collection of data, eight students were chosen; all of them were students of
Legacy College of Compostela as a partcipants of the study. They were selected third-year students
in Legacy College of Compostela on modular instructions: a phenomenological study in Legacy
College of Compostela. They were chosen to be our respondents because of the Pandemic. They
have different experiences and challenges with their observations & experiences regarding the
implementation of Modular Instructions.
The interview took place on the campus in the Legacy college of Compostela in a quiet
room wherein our participants feel at ease and comfortable answering the given questions. During
the interviews, most of our respondents have similar observations & experiences with the
implemented program with the modular instructions. We used an audio recorder through our
cellphone. Each member of our group has a copy of the recording and each is responsible to listen
& write the information gathered from the participants.
Data Collection
Before conducting the study, the first step is to present the in-depth interview questions to
the adviser for approval. After it is approved, the researcher will officially begin conducting the
study.
Accessing Participants. To access the participants, the researcher will take and pass a letter
to the school addressed to the administrator, where the study is to be conducted. The request letter
will be presented each time the researcher conducts the interview. Purposive sampling will be used
to determine the participants of the study.
Interview. In administering the questionnaire and conducting interviews, the researcher
will first explain the purpose of the study, and how important their answer is for the particular
study.
Collecting Data. In the actual data collection, the researcher will present the consent form
that they are allowed to conduct the study and explain to the respondents the purpose of
interviewing starting the interview.
Storing Data. In storing the data, the researcher will create backup copies of the computer
files for the audio-recorded information from the interview and save them on the computer. The
researcher will make sure that the files and documents will be put in a single folder to avoid
misplacing them. The researcher will also keep the anonymity of the participants by omitting their
names and keeping the information confidential.
Data Analysis
In analysing the data collected, the researcher will look for the themes from the recorded
interviews of the participating individual. These themes will be conceptualized from the guide
questions. The recorded interviews will be transcribed first by the researcher to have a visible data
output of the interview. The researcher will give code names to all the participants namely N1, N2,
N3, and so forth, the purpose of this is to hide the identity of the participating individual and also
to have a more organized and systematic form of data that will be used in this study.
For the type of data, the researcher codes: I for the In-depth interviews. The first number
represents the participation number specifying the line where the cited transcriptions start and the
line where it ends.
