This study aimed to investigate the level of teachers' behavior and the learning
attitude of Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences students at Catarman National High
School. The researchers sought to gain a deeper understanding of the teaching practices
and student perceptions within the school context.
A survey-based method was employed to gather data from the student
respondents. The demographic profile of the respondents showed that the majority were
17-18 years old, and there were more female students than male students. This aligns
with the broader trends in the Philippines, where female students have been observed to
maintain higher levels of school attendance and academic performance compared to their
male counterparts.
The findings revealed that the students evaluated their teachers' behavior as "Very
Satisfactory," with the highest ratings given for the teachers' self-confidence and caring
attitudes. This suggests that the teachers were able to effectively assist students, address
their questions, and create a supportive learning environment. Furthermore, the students
had an "Extremely Positive" learning attitudes, demonstrating a strong willingness to
learn, a commitment to giving their best effort, and a genuine interest in the subject
matter.
However, the results also shows that teachers’ sense of humor are not that
recognizable, giving a mean value of three point thirty-eight which is interpreted as
“Satisfactory”. As for the student’s comprehension, the results show a mean value of
three point forty-eight (3.48) which is interpreted as “Extremely Positive”, being the
lowest. Suggesting that students have lesser understanding of each lesson being taught by
their teachers.
Based on the data gained from this study, the researchers propose several
recommendations to enhance the teaching and learning experience at Catarman National
High School. These include strategies to improve teachers' skills in delivering engaging
lessons, fostering empathy, understanding, and incorporating appropriate humor to create
a more dynamic and inclusive classroom environment.
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
JAY CARL S. GOCO, born on September
16, 2006, is a 17-year-old who lives in
Barangay Libjo, Catarman, Northern Samar
with his parents; Marifel Goco and Jose Goco.
He also has a sister named Athena Goco.
Finishing High School at Catarman National
High school, he is known for being active,
cooperative, and cheerful by so many people
including his friends and relatives. This 17-year-old kid aspires to be a broadcaster
someday, a radio DJ, or probably, a voice over artists. He finds this career path
interesting as he is not only amazed by how people in that industry do to their voices, but
he also finds it very useful especially, in today’s time. Not only that. Another career that
interests him is teacher. He knows to himself that he likes sharing knowledgeable things
to curious people. He also believes that education is one of the most important things in
people’s lives. Technology is what he loves. Specifically, cellphones as he likes watching
phone reviews by different tech content creators. Lastly, he likes to sing. He, before,
joined an amateur singing contest and placed 3 rd from all nine contestants. With the fear
of choosing the wrong path, he still seeks guidance by whoever has experienced a lot of
things.
GRACELYN ENLIG ROSALES, born on
September 16, 2004, is an aspiring researcher
and a resident of Barangay Bangkerohan. She
comes from a loving family, consisting of her
parents and five siblings. Gracelyn possesses a
vibrant personality and is driven by her
passions for reading, singing, and dancing.
Dancing holds a special place in her heart, as she actively participates in dance training
and is a dedicated member of a dance group. Through her commitment and hard work,
she continuously polishes her skills, aiming to excel in the field of dance. With a strong
determination to succeed, she embraces her talents and hobbies as sources of inspiration
and personal growth. She aspires to make a significant impact in her chosen fields and
hopes to achieve success in the future.
MARK DEMBER S. ALCERA, was born on
December 28, 2003. He currently resides in
Brgy. Dalakit Purok 1, Catarman, Northern
Samar, together with his supportive and loving
family. Mark Dember enjoys dancing and
playing basketball, but he is not skilled in
cooking; instead, he takes pleasure in eating.
His dream is to become a police officer, and he firmly believes that someday his dream
will come true at the right time.
MARC WARREN O. BALANDO, was born
on September 12, 2004, and currently resides in
Brgy. Dalakit, Catarman, Northern Samar, with
his supportive family. He has a wide range of
hobbies and interests. He enjoys watching
movies, listening to music, riding a bike, and
singing. Although he admits that his singing
voice is not very good, he is determined to practice and improve. Since childhood, he has
been a shy individual, but he has learned to manage his shyness to avoid its negative
effects. However, he still experiences occasional trembling when speaking in front of
others. His dream is to become a police officer, a goal he has held since a young age. He
is dedicated to working towards these aspirations to bring happiness to his family and
achieve long-term success.
FATIMA E. BALBERDE,
MECAILLA COKIE A. BONA, a grade 12
student at Catarman National High School with
the strand, Humanities and Social Sciences.
Born on the 3rd of May in 2006 at Payatas,
Quezon and currently resides at Brgy.
Cawayan, Catarman, Northern Samar. Living
with three brothers and a younger sister, she
developed her interests like dancing and travelling. She sees herself as a successful
businesswoman and also a politician. With her likes in trying out new things and her love
on debates, she can clearly see the bright future ahead of her.
DAVE FRANZ J. CAALIM, born on
November 24, 2005, which currently lives in
Brgy. Dalakit, Catarman, Northern, Samar
together with his family. He has a hobby on
playing Volleyball as he aspires to be a
professional volleyball player
