3. Pottery
Historically, Philippine ceramics or the making of pots out from molded clay and then
allowed to dry dates back 3500 years ago and considered one of the oldest and most
widespread of the decorative arts. They are one of the products that are being traded by
the Philippines to neighboring countries. Their uses vary such as some potteries are used
as ceramic jars with anthropomorphic designs to contain the remains of deceased
relatives. The jars are covered with shaped like human heads.
Filipino pottery making during the Neolithic period of the Philippines, has many uses
such as water vessel, plates, cups, storage container of liquids and dry foods. Such
storing practice helps protect the food from moist and pests compared to baskets and
animal skin. It has been widely acknowledged as one of practical tools that humans ever
invented.
Ceramic vessels of Kalinga are classified into three types according to the kind of food
or liquid it can store such as: rice cooking (ittoyom), vegetable/meat cooking (oppaya),
and water storage (immosso) pots (Savage, 2020).

Before Spanish colonization, native Filipinos weaved using fibers from plants like
abaca, cotton, and bark cloth as clothing material to make garments. Different tribes
create traditional weaving patterns with distinct style, and with designs showcasing the
tribe's rich colorful heritage.
Yakan designs are derived from the natural landscape of Lamitan, Basilan. Fabrics
reveal geometric patterns of bright colors which are made from pineapple and abaca
fibers dyed with plant extracts. It is a tedious work that usually takes a week to finish a
meter of the fabric.
T'boli tribe of Lake Sebu, South Cotabato make their fabrics from abaca. T'boli
weavers believed that their designs and patterns are handed down to them by their
ancestors through their dreams. They are well known for their t'nalak cloth, which they
paired with wearing hilets, or belts with brass small bells, which they believed drive
away bad spirits.
The Maranao, associate color of fabrics with their social status and how they feel.
Yellow color fabric is associated with royalty and high status, In the early practice, a
commoner who wore yellow can be ostracized or even beheaded. Maranaos who want
to appear humble and accomplished would wear green, which expresses peace,
The payback period in capital budgeting refers to the time it takes to recover the initial investment cost from the earnings generated by the project. It is used to evaluate the risk and efficiency of an investment .
Sumerians were among the first to map the movement of stars, planets, and the moon into constellations, many of which survived into the zodiac and influenced Greek astronomical practices .
The finance manager projects capital needs, plans financial strategy, determines project profitability, and aids in the orderly ranking of capital expenditures using techniques like ROI, IRR, and payback period .
Sumerians developed the cuneiform writing system, produced the potter's wheel, practiced astronomy, and used a sexagesimal system of counting which influenced 360-degree circles and 60-minute hours. They also advanced in farming with irrigation and seed plows .
A modern business firm must promote the financial interests of its investors, ensuring adequate returns and growth, while also improving social conditions in its community, thereby achieving sustainable profitability .
The emerging thrust in business education in the Philippines includes a more analytical and quantitative approach, using Philippine business experiences to illustrate applications of financial principles, and building entrepreneurship as an academic goal .
The Iron Age introduced iron tools such as sickles and plough tips, which made farming more efficient and allowed the exploitation of tougher soils, thus supporting the growth of various crops .
During the Bronze Age, the creation of bronze, a harder and more durable metal, enabled the production of superior tools and weapons, giving civilizations a significant technological edge in agriculture, warfare, and construction .
A finance manager must choose from a growing number of financing packages, considering the least cost, burden on company assets, and threat to current management. This involves balancing options like bank borrowing, credit from suppliers, and equity investments .
The finance manager's awareness of daily cash flow is crucial for balancing cash balances, ensuring funds for obligations like asset installments and interest charges, and identifying profitable opportunities for investment to avoid idle funds .
