Introduction
This study is of immense importance since it will attempt to determine the effects of
the heat indices on both the physical and cognitive well-being of the students in
Bayorbor National High School, Batangas, Philippines, during the months of April and
May 2024. The compressed class schedule, from 6 am to 10:30 am instead of the usual
7 am to 2:30 pm, was imposed to protect the students from the hottest hours of the day.
However, despite the revisions, some students have been complaining about the
discomfort brought on by the hot temperatures inside the classrooms.
Now, the urgency of conducting this study is to investigate the main problematic
causes of the heat index and its effects on the students' physical and cognitive health.
In knowing the main factors that drive the impact of the heat index, it will be easy to
plan effective measures to alleviate the problem and improve the health of the students
in the school.
The research will try to answer questions such as: What particular challenges do
students experience from hot classroom temperatures? What is the effect of the
compressed class schedule on the physical and cognitive health of the students? What
factors are most responsible for the impacts of the heat index? Knowing this, strategic
interventions can be planned to solve the problem and enhance the students' well-being
in the school.
The results will be useful for knowledge building on the importance of creating a
learning environment that is comfortable to safeguard the physical and cognitive
health of the students. Identifying the prime problematic causes of the heat index and
its impacts, the study will provide useful knowledge for the Department of Education,
the school administration, and educators to implement targeted intervention strategies
and policies.
Ultimately, the research has the aim of improving the overall educational experience of
students within Bayorbor National High School by mitigating challenges presented
through heat indices. Understanding specific factors that contribute to discomfort and
hindered physical and cognitive performance will allow appropriate measures to be
applied and bring about an optimal learning environment. This study shall be the
