2. PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to describe mechanical works of which
installation of fire protection services is carried out for this Turbo Vacuum
Building Project.
3. REFERENCES
1. Contractors Drawing & Specification
2. NFPA 13 Pressure Test Procedure.
4. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS IN TESTING
1. The General Requirements for Pressure Testing Specified in details which
piping or equipment shall be pressure tested and provided the specific
applicable standard.
2. All joints including welded shall be left exposed for visual leak detection
during the strength test.
3. For piping system that have already passed a successful pressure testing
4. Safe access and required temporary supports will be provided for inspection of
all joints and appurtenances prior to system walk through and should be
maintained until the satisfactory completion of the test.
5. TEST PREPARATION
1. Ensure that testing equipment’s / tools and other needed are ready.
2. Gauges shall be fixed at different locations to ensure that the required
readings are measured.
3. Ensure that all pipes and fittings installed are leak proof.
4. A minimum of two pressure gauges are required for the test system. One
pressure gauge shall be on the manifold and the other(s) on the test
system.
5. When large systems are being tested, Inspection personnel shall determine
the need for additional gauges.
6. Recording gauges shall be used where it is necessary to keep a permanent
record, e.g., when the test duration exceeds for hours, or otherwise as
required by Spec.
6. TEST EXECUTION
1. The test procedure shall be conducted in accordance with applicable code. In
addition, the following requirements shall apply:

2. Identify the maximum test pressure to be used, as determined by the Project
Engineer or Field Engineer.
3. Examine all connection prior to the test to ensure proper tightness.
4. Determine the pressure rating for all connected fittings and devices to ensure
they are rated for the maximum test pressure.
5. Isolate any equipment that may be damaged by the test and indicate this
isolation on the test form.
6. Secure a blind flange or cap suitable for the system’s rated pressure on all
opening that are not closed off by valves.
7. All piping system shall be tested using water to a pressure of 200 psi. The
indicated pressure shall be maintained for the required holding period without
further application of pressure and without visible leakage or a drop in the
indicated pressure.
8. The piping shall be hydro tested in a closed circuit for a period of 2 hours.
9. Apply a preliminary test pressure of 20 psig, or as directed by the Engineer.
NOTE: This pressure should be held for a minimum of 10 minutes to
allow for the location of any major leaks.
10. Apply the test pressure in increment of 20 psig, or as directed by the
Engineer, until the maximum test pressure is reached. Hold pressure for 10
minutes at each 20 psig increment and inspect for leaks before adding more
pressure.
11. Experienced personnel are deployed to supervise and conduct the testing
operation in a safe and efficient manner, taking in to account all aspects of
testing, such as co-ordination, supervision and safety.
12. Check the pipes, pipe joints and accessories for the leakage of water while
pumping and if any, attend the fault and rectify.
13. After the test pressure is reached, the pump shall be blocked off by closing
the ball valve and the variations of pressure in the system monitored on the
pressure.
14. Ensure all the leakages are arrested after the correction is made, the pressure
test shall be repeated until a completely tight system is ensured and the testing
procedure shall be as per specification.
7. INSPECTION
1. The QC inspector representative shall carry out the necessary test and inspections
in various stages of the work.

2. During pressure testing, all exposed joints, welds (including structural attachment
welds to pressure-containing component), shall be examined for leaks.
3. The pressure testing shall be repeated after the repair of any defects until the
system is proved satisfactory.
4. The piping system shall be satisfactory if there is no evidence of leakage or
pressure loss after the specified test period.
5. Test results shall be recorded and certified by the Inspector that the piping has
satisfactorily passed pressure testing.
