ABSTRACT

This study examines the impact of academic strand stereotypes and in what

way it affect the students identity and academic performance. Academic strands such

as STEM, HUMSS, ABM, and TVL are often associated with distinct stereotypes that

greatly influence their self perception and behavior Wether this stereotypes is negative

or positive; positive stereotypes about a certain strands can boost students’

confidence, while negative stereotypes can lead to anxiety, decreased self-esteem, and

academic underachievement. The research highlights the need for educational

institutions to address and mitigate these stereotypes to foster a more inclusive and

supportive learning environment. By understanding the pervasive effects of these

stereotypes, educators can better support students in developing a healthy academic

identity and achieving their full potential.
