NARRATIVE REPORT AS VOLUNTEER TEACHER DURING THE

NATIONAL LEARNING CAMP 2024

In support to the MATATAG Basic Education Agenda and in partnership with the
National Learning Recovery Program (NLRP) of the Department, I actively participated as a
volunteer teacher for science subject during the National Learning Camp (NLC) conducted
from July 1-19, 2024.

At the beginning of the National Learning Camp, I handled _____ learners composed
of _____ boys and _____ girls. Before the program commenced, an orientation with the
parents and learners were conducted to inform the parents and to guide the learners with
regards to the three-week learning camp.

The first week of the National Learning Camp was full of enthusiasm and excitement.
During this week, majority of my learners got the perfect attendance. My activities in the first
week were centered on rapport building and diagnostic assessment to identify the learning
needs of the students. Students were exposed to enhancement and intervention based on
interactive games and discussions addressing their specific needs. I made sure that my
learners are actively engaged in every activity.

During the second week, my role was to guide and facilitate the academic journey of
my students, helping them to develop critical thinking, communication skills and their
problem-solving skills. I gave lecture, and interactive discussions and provided them with
some activities that would challenge and stimulate their intellectual curiosity especially since
I am handling Science subject. I made sure that all my students could have the chance to
participate in the classroom activities provided to them.

During the third and last week, I gave some camp-style activities integrating science
lessons. Those activities were given for socio-emotional growth and character development
among learners. Apart from it, that could also boost self-confidence and resilience out of the
challenging tasks that were provided to them. Being the class facilitator, I made sure their
safety in various activities while my students were learning and having fun.

Towards the end of the program, learners were made to showcase projects and outputs
indicating what they have learned from the subject. A Culmination Program was conducted as
part of the National Learning Camp program implementation. Certificates and awards were
given to those learners who got the perfect attendance. There were _________ out of
________ learners who were able to attend the NLC until the last session. One thing that
encouraged and motivated the learners to attend the sessions was the free snacks given to the
campers charged to teacher’s own pocket.
The implementation of the National Learning Camp was a great avenue both for
learners and teachers. For the learners, they were able to engage in interactive and immersive
learning experiences that go beyond the traditional classroom environment. They explored
new concepts and perspectives that may not be covered in the regular curriculum. Our
learners developed critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, as well as
boost their confidence and self-esteem.

For us teachers, the NLC provided us the opportunity to enhance our teaching skills,
provided hands-on activities and experiential learning opportunities which later can be
incorporated into our teaching practices. More importantly, the NLC re-ignited our passion
for teaching. In sum, the implementation of the National Learning Camp provided a platform
for both teachers and learners to expand our knowledge, socio-emotional skills, personal
growth, and character development and fostered a positive impact on personal and
professional growth. As one of the volunteer teachers, it was such a rewarding experience
contributing to the overall success of the National Learning Camp 2024 of the department
and I look forward to another learning camp in the years ahead.
