Reflection #2

1. Among the five essential values related to academic integrity, which one/ones do you
feel is important to you and why?
For me, the most important academic integrity is honesty, because honesty is the principle
for everything. We need to be honest to have courage, trust, and responsibility, among
others academic integrity. Honesty is important because promotes trust between me,
professors, and other classmates, and it is a reflection of our efforts and learning, with a
healthy place with more respect, where the wrongs can be corrected when necessary.

2. Do you think academic integrity should be practiced in the workplace as well as in


our academic life? Give one example to show how academic integrity plays a crucial
role in the workplace. (You might need to do some research on this topic. Remember
to give appropriate citation).
Yes, is very important that academic integrity be practiced in academic life and in the
workplace too. When a student has dishonest behavior in their studies, practicing
dishonesty in a future workplace is more probable, hence the importance of academic
integrity since studying, helps the studies to have an ethical career. One example of how
integrity is crucial in a workplace, is when we are going to prepare a report, or something
like that, that we need to be honest and correct with the information we are going to pass
on about that subject, understand and make sure of the information and sources that have
been made available to us for that job. I'm reminded of a scene from a movie, where a
young man is called into the management room at his work and is offered a promotion, but
in order for him to be promoted the boss asks him to lie in the report (17 units would have
been received, but he would like only 16 units to have been received), and asks him to think
about this proposal until the morning of the next day, where when he returns to the
management room, he informs him that it won't be possible for him to carry out what the
boss had asked him to do because it would go against his principles, even though he risks
being fired for refusing. At this point, the boss tells me that what had happened was just a
test and that he had passed, after six attempts he had been the first to refuse to lie in the
report.

No, I was already aware of all the points that are to be considered about Academic
Dishonesty and Misrepresentation of Personal performance.

4. What is your responsibility as a student of Humber College to maintain academic


integrity?
It is entirely my responsibility to maintain and understand academic integrity throughout
my program and even in my future workplace, always taking into consideration honesty,
trust, fairness, respect, responsibility and courage.
