Interview Questions (examples)

1. Please introduce yourself.


My name is Rushakrit, or you can call me PK. I am from St. Gabriel Collage. I am
studying in Grade 9. I am 13 years old. In fact, I am about to be 14 next month. I live
with my parents and brother in Bangkok.

2. Why do you want to apply for this program?


I choose this program because it is a joint project with my school, so it is reliable and
great. I want to improve my English skills and make some friends under a safe and fun
environment, so this program is the answer for me.

3. Have you ever been abroad/to other countries before?


I have been to Germany when I was young. It was one of the best experiences I have
ever had because it was my first European country. It was so beautiful and different
from Thailand. The people were friendly and kind. The weather was nice.

4. If yes, for how long? with whom? For what reason?


I went there for a month with my family. I stayed at my cousin’s house, so we saved a
lot money. The main reason was to travel and visit my cousin who lives there. We had a
great time together.

5. Have you ever got homesick?


No, I have never got homesick because going aboard is fun, so I don’t miss my home
much. Also, it is a rare chance to live aboard, so I should be happy to have this chance
and improve my English and other skills.

6. What is the duration of the longest trip without your parents that you have
ever had?
The longest trip without my parents that I have ever had was 1 month in Beijing, China. I
was there for a summer camp. I studied Chinese and made new friends. I learnt a lot on
how to live by myself.

7. Do you think you are going to get homesick? Why?


In my opinion, I will not get homesick because I will be busy with my study and activities
at my new school. If I have free time, I will call my family to let them know that I am
doing great and learning a lot.

8. Is it easy for you to make friends?


It is easy for me to make friends because I am friendly to other people, so I can talk a
lot. If I find someone, I will try to learn what is their interests and hobbies. Then, I will
use those topics to start a conversation and befriend with them.

8. Do you play any sports?


Yes, I like to play basketball because it is fun and a good way to exercise. In fact, I am
the school’s basketball player to lose some weight.
9. Do you play any musical instruments?
I play the piano because it is cool and good for concentration. I have been playing it
since I was 8 years old. It is my favorite hobby.

10. Can you cook? What type of food?


I can cook a bit. I can cook an instant noodle because it is easy. When I am home
alone, I can make some to survive.

11. What do you usually do in your free time?


I usually play games when I have free time because it is fun and relaxing. Also, I like
drawing because I want to build a house someday, so I would like to draw the plan by
myself.

12. Are you allergic to anything?


I am allergic to pollution. When I get in touch with it, I will have a cough and a runny
nose. I also have a sore throat, so I need to wear masks to protect myself.

13. Do you have pets?


Yes, I have some gold fish because they are easy to take care, and they are great
friends because I can talk to them for every problem I have.

14. What do you expect from the host family?


I expect that they are not vegans because I am a meat lover, so I don’t think I can stand
not eating any meat for a year. Meat is an important food that helps me grow.

15. What do you expect to be after you have joined the program?
I expect to be a better student who can communicate in English and improve my skills
to take care of myself so that I can grow up to be a better person.

16. What are your weaknesses?


My weakness is that sometimes I am lazy. I lose interests in things very quickly.

17. What are your strengths?


My strength is that I am quite smart and can learn very well. I read books only a day
before having an exam and scored an A.

18. Can you describe your personality?


First, I always think of the good side of any situations and make use of it. For example,
doing homework makes me smarter. Second, I am hard-working because I want to be
rich. Lastly, I am sincere since I try to be nice and help everyone.

19. Why do you want to go to Canada?


I want to go to Canada because it is quiet and peaceful. It is the country that is really
large and has a lot of attractive landmarks.
20. Do you usually do housework at home? If yes, what are your
responsibilities?
I usually water and grow plants at home with my dad because I like green things and
want to watch them grow. Also, I do the dishes because I want to help my mom and let
her take a break.

21. What do you want to change about yourself?


I want to change my laziness because I want to do more and improve more in the
future.

22. What is your personality at school?


At school, I am quite funny because I try to make my friends laugh and happy all the
time. I think they all like me. However, sometimes I can be quiet when I am alone
because I need to think about my life.

23. How is your relationship with your family?


I have a good relationship with my family because we hang out a lot together. We have
been many countries and spent time with each other.

24. What is your educational goal?


My educational goal is to study engineering and business so that I can be a successful
business owner.

25. Why should host family choose you?


Host family should choose me because I am an easy-going person who will not
complain over little problems, such as food and accommodation.

26. How flexible are you and in what ways?


I am not racist, and I can befriend with anyone from any races. I will not bully anyone.

27. What kind of host family do you want?


I want a host family that is talkative and kind so that I can practice a lot of English when
we spend time together.

I am positive, hard-working, and sincere. First, I always think of the good side of any
situations and make use of it. For example, doing homework makes me smarter.

be nice and help everyone.
28. Do you like animals?
Yes, I like animals because they are cute and friendly. They can comfort me when I am
sad.
29. The U.S. or Canada?
I prefer to go to Canada because it is safer than the U.S. For example, guns are illegal
in Canada, so normal people and children cannot carry them to school and shoot me.
