WEEK 8 - Lecture Notes
Test 3 revision
1. You can easily draw neat section lines by using a strip of tape or scratching a line on
one edge of your 45 degree set square. Your drawings will look so much better!
2. Remember to show cutting plane lines with arrow heads on the parts of a view that
need to be sectioned (cut). This makes it easier to follow the projection lines!
3. Take careful note of the sizes for orthographic symbols - it is simple 12mm and 6mm
Course Revision
We started this course by learning about drawing equipment and how to use a drawing
board. We also learned about the type of lines that must be used in engineering drawings
and you watched some videos about drawing technique.
I will repeat some of the videos that I posted on Moodle as revision in preparation for next
weeks final Test. You are welcome to contact me privately on the Whatsapp engineering

Test 4 will only be visible on Moodle on Friday 4 June - you have plenty of time to revise
everything on Moodle now, especially the parts that you are not so sure about!
It is very important that you know and understand how to project vertical and horizontal
lines for BOTH 1st and 3rd angle orthographic projection using your drawing equipment.
Also, learn the correct ways to position your views. Remember the positions for the dining
room chair. 1st and 3rd angle projection is an international standard and is very
important to know and understand.

These exercises give you an opportunity to mentally visualize drawing THREE primary
views in 3rd angle projection. Look for the download button on the website and you will

Test 4
Next weeks test will be available on Moodle from 8:00 am on Friday 4 June.
You will be given FOUR questions - but you only need to choose ANY TWO for the 2 hr
test.
TIP: The types of questions will include the following types of drawings.
1. Orthographic drawing (3 views).
2. An Isometric drawing.
3. Full and half sectional drawing.
4. Add an Auxiliary view after drawing TWO orthographic views.
