1.0 OBJECTIVE
To define the procedures to be adopted at the time of receipt of materials at site and to
ensure all the installation requirements are made ready to avoid double handling of
equipment / material. To ensure the correct material is delivered and installed in line with the
specification / drawings / approval.

Supply and Install of ACMV Ductwork

4.0 PURPOSE
To ensure that the sheet metal installation is comply with specification, thermal requirements
and SMACNA Standard.

6.0 PLANNING
Before any of the equipment / materials delivery / installation works to be carried out, the
following procedure shall be taken to ensure smooth working progress;
a. To ensure shop drawings / coordination drawings are approved
b. To ensure sample / catalogue (for material to be used for installation) are approved.
c. To ensure that the area for installation works are handed over by main contractor.
d. To ensure material delivery to site are as per delivery order.
e. To co-ordinate and to inform Main Contractor of the works to be commenced.
f. Prepare all necessary tools, machinery and manpower.
g. Site Engineer to monitor the progress of work.
h. After installation works are completed, Inspection form shall be submitted. Inspection
shall be called and inspected to the satisfaction of C.O.W.
i. To ensure make good of openings (e.g. patching with cement)
7.0 Work Methodology
General
a. To ensure to use the latest approved shop drawings and coordination drawings
b. Determined quantity and correct gauges of G.I. duct upon delivery and before
starting the fabrication work. G.I. sheet shall be measured with the help of a
micrometer and shall be witnessed by Main Contractor and approved by consultant
representative.
Inspection upon Delivery
a. Inspect for transport damage before unloading the material.
b. Damaged items shall not be used for installation works on site.
c. Check all items against delivery order and purchase order.

a. The duct construction standard shall follow the standard shown in the table below.

c. The recommended clip spacing for TDF connection is shall be as shown in Figure 4
below.

e. The support details for ductworks shall follow the standard shown in Figure 6 below.

g. The sizing of ducting elbow vane shall follow the table below
Assembly Procedure
a. The duct shall be fabricated into required form and size at factory.
b. The factory fabricated duct shall be delivered and assembled at site by using slip
joints or TDC Joints.
c. Drive Slip Connector Duct
Two adjoining duct sections are joined together with slip joint. Sealant is then
applied over the corner of transverse joint.
d. TDC Flange Connector Duct
Corner pieces are installed at four corners of the formed duct section, gasket
is then provided all around the duct section at one end.
Two adjoining ducts are joined together with bolts & nuts at four corners.
e. Clips are then fixed to clamp rigidly all the four sides of the flange.
Installation Procedure
a. Mark the position of anchor bolt installation drilling points on concrete slab for bracket
support installation according to the latest approved shop drawings.
b. Use drilling machine to drill the hole for anchor bolt in concrete slab according to
marked points. (Refer to Figure 8

c. Fix and set the Anchor bolt, lock nut, threaded rod (Refer to figure 8)

d. The following to be checked prior to installation:
Duct hangers are fitted according to specifications.
Select the fabricated duct section with correct dimensions.
f. All installation work to be carried out as per approved shop drawings / coordination
drawings.
g. Based on the size of the ducts, two/three sections of the ducts are joined on the floor
as per layout drawing.
h. The assembled duct will be lifted up to set on to the hangers and aligned. (Refer to
Figure 11).

i. The open ends of the ducts are closed with polythene sheets to avoid ingress of dust
(Refer to Figure 12).

j. Apply approved duct sealant to prevent air leakage.
k. For Fire Rated Ducting apply all around the Approved Fire Painting Shall.
Riser Ducting
a. Mark the position of anchor bolt installation drilling points on concrete slab for bracket
support installation according to the latest approved shop drawings.
b. Use drilling machine to drill the hole for anchor bolt in concrete slab according to
marked points.
c. Fix and set the Anchor bolt and support brackets in position. Tight the Nut on the
bolts holding the support bracket.
d. Based on the size of the ducts, two/three sections of the ducts are joined on the floor
as per layout drawing.
e. The assembled duct will be lifted up to set on to the supports. The holes shall be
drilled on the sides of the duct sheet. The nut bolts shall be fitted and attached with
the support bracket (refer to figure 13)
f. The open ends of the ducts are closed with polythene sheets to avoid ingress of duct/dirt.
g. Apply approved duct sealant to prevent air leakage.

Fire Rated Ducting
a. The duct work will be fabricated / constructed to construction details based on
SMACNA duct construction standards.
b. The duct shall be installed as stated above.
c. After installation of ducting apply Approved fire rated painting all around.
d. All duct surfaces and joints shall be cleaned with dry cloth before coating.
e. The Fire rated coating shall be executed using hand brush or roller.
f. Minimum thickness of fire rated coating shall be 0.6mm. Generally, 2 layers of
coatings shall be sufficient to achieve the required thickness.
g. Any recoat shall be done on dried layer. Do not coat on wet surface.
h. All duct including TDC Joints and TDC Clips shall be checked visually to ensure that
they are completely covered with FR Paint.
i. Coating shall be done and checked by supplier’s representative. A digital gauge shall
be used to ensure thickness is within recommended value (not less than 0.6mm)

8 INSPECTION
A Request for Work Inspection (RFWI) Form will be extended to Main Contractor and works
shall be checked by Main contractor follow by consultant representative.
A Request for Work Inspection (RFWI) Form shall be enclosed with the drawing and
Checklist Form as follows:
8.1 Receiving Inspection Report (RIR)
a. The material receiving checklist will be submitted normally upon delivery to Main-Con
or client representative.
b. Delivery order will be submitted together with the material receiving checklist to
confirm that the materials delivered to site are as per the approvals.
8.2 Inspection Checklist of ductwork
a. This inspection is required to ensure the conformance of installation works are as per
approved coordination drawing and specification.
9 SAFETY AND HEALTH
a. Workers shall be equipped with personal protection equipment (PPE) such as safety
shoes, safety helmet and etc.
b. To wear mask and Goggle when drill the drop in anchor holes for overhead
installation.
c. Protection against electrical hazard by using proper tools and equipment.
d. All the power tools need to use properly as its design intended. Don’t misuse the tool
as it can be dangerous.
e. Proper erection of scaffolding will be used for high level installation.
f. To ensure all material, fittings machines and tools are secured before leaving the
workplace/ site.
g. To ensure proper material storage.
h. Perform daily housekeeping after work is completed.
