Pre – requisites It is expected that participants will have a basic knowledge
of facilities at their work site.
Learning Outcome On completion of this course the learner will be able to:
Utilize adult training techniques to instruct small groups
Identify the properties and sources of H2S and Sulfur
Dioxide
Identify the methods to assess the risk of exposure to
H2S
Identify the administrative controls required to manage
the risk of exposure to Hydrogen Sulfide
Identify the types and limitations of gas detection
equipment available.

Identify the first aid procedures to help patients exposed
to H2S
Summary of This unit gives an overview of the requirements of an H2S
Content instructor training course and the management of the risks
associated with H2S exposure.
Delivery Delivery will consist of classroom theory and practical
exercises. This will allow for total integration of
competence, knowledge, thinking skills, and correct
procedures.
Refresher Every three years
Competency Assessment for this unit will consist of a knowledge and
skills assessment based on classroom material and practical
exercises. The assessments are included in the student
guides.
Resource Package This unit contains a purpose designed resource visual guide,
which is to be retained by the participant as an ongoing
reference manual along with a copy of Total Safety’s
“ABCs of Hydrogen Sulfide,” a draft copy of API RP 55,
Appendix C and a draft copy of ANSI Z390.1.
