INTRODUCTION BEFORE THE MASS

Commentator:

Good Morning Sisters and Brothers!

After four years of stay in San Pablo Seminary we have come to the most
awaited day- the Graduation Day of our senior brothers. Graduation
symbolizes their academic success and the fruit of their sacrifices through
these years. It is also a symbol of the growth that has taken place in each one
of them during these last four years.

The theme of this year’s graduation is “Stand up and go...” (Luke 17:19).
The 13 graduates arrived in San Pablo Seminary as strangers to one another
but after four years of journeying together they are leaving this place of
formation having forged friendships which will carry with them.

Today, they also reminded themselves that they are not only friends to one
another but even more importantly they have become friends and disciples of
Jesus and it is our prayer, together with them, that they remain in this love and
friendship with Jesus.

On this same day, the Church also celebrates the feast of St. James the Great.
He is known as one of the 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ, son of Zebedee, and a
brother of John. We ask St. James to intercede for the graduates of San Pablo
Seminary, school of philosophy, batch 2022.

 THE INTRODUCTORY RITES
When he has arrived at the altar, after making a profound bow with the ministers, the
Bishop venerates the altar with a kiss and, if appropriate, incenses the cross and the altar.
Then, with the ministers, he goes to the chair.

When the Entrance Chant is concluded, the Bishop and the faithful, standing, sign
themselves with the Sign of the Cross, while the Priest, facing the people, says:

In the name of the Father,

and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
R. Amen.
Extending his hands, greets the people, saying:

Peace be with you.

R. And with your spirit.

INTRODUCTION TO THE CELEBRATION

Commentator:

Please be seated as we listen to the words of Rev. Fr. Shierwin A. Cabunillas,

the San Pablo Seminary Dean of Studies and the Vice- Rector.

The Vice-rector delivers his message.

We all stand.

RITE OF BLESSING AND SPRINKLING OF HOLY WATER
This rite takes the place of the Penitential Act; the kyrie is omitted.
After the greeting the Presider remains standing at his chair. A vessel containing the water to be
blessed is brought before him. Facing the people, he invites them to pray using these words

Dear brothers and sisters,

let us humbly beseech the Lord our God
to bless this water he has created,
which will be sprinkled on us
as a memorial of our baptism.
May he help us by his grace
to remain faithful to the Spirit we have receive.
After a brief silence, the Presider continues:

Almighty ever-living God,

who willed that through water,
the fountain of life and the source of purification,
even souls should be cleansed
and receive the gift of eternal life;
be pleased, we pray, to † bless this water,
by which we seek protection
on this your day, O Lord.

Renew the living spring of your grace within us

and grant that by this water we may be defended
from all ills of spirit and body,
and so approach you with hearts made clean
and worthily receive your salvation.
Through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.

Where the circumstances of the place or the custom of the people suggest that the mixing of
salt be preserved in the blessing of water, the Priest may bless salt, saying:

We humbly ask you, almighty God:

be pleased in your faithful love to bless † this salt
you have created,
for it was you who commanded the prophet Elisha
to cast salt into water,
that impure water might be purified.

Grant, O Lord, we pray,

that, wherever this mixture of salt and water is
sprinkled,
every attack of the enemy may be repulsed
and your Holy Spirit may be present
to keep us safe at all times.
Through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen

Then he pours the salt into the water, without saying anything.
Afterward, taking the aspergillum, the Priest sprinkles himself and the ministers, then the
clergy and people, moving through the church, if appropriate.
Meanwhile, one of the following chants, or another appropriate chant is sung.

When he returns to his chair and the singing is over, the Priest stands facing the people
and, with hands joined, says:

May almighty God cleanse us of our sins,

and through the celebration of this Eucharist
make us worthy to share at the table of his
Kingdom.

The Bishop intones the Gloria, and the assembly sings.

Let us pray.

Almighty ever-living God,

who consecrated the first fruits of your Apostles
by the blood of Saint James,
grant, we pray,
that your Church may be strengthened by his
confession of faith
and constantly sustained by his protection.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the
Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

 THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

READING I 2 Corinthians 4:7-15

A reading from the second letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians,

Brothers and sisters:

We hold this treasure in earthen vessels,
that the surpassing power may be of God and not from us.
We are afflicted in every way, but not constrained;
perplexed, but not driven to despair;
persecuted, but not abandoned;
struck down, but not destroyed;
always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus,
so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our body.
For we who live are constantly being given up to death
for the sake of Jesus,
so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

So death is at work in us, but life in you.

Since, then, we have the same spirit of faith,
according to what is written, I believed, therefore I spoke,
we too believe and therefore speak,
knowing that the one who raised the Lord Jesus
will raise us also with Jesus
and place us with you in his presence.
Everything indeed is for you,
so that the grace bestowed in abundance on more and more people
may cause the thanksgiving to overflow for the glory of God.

 A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.
As he continued his journey to Jerusalem,
he traveled through Samaria and Galilee.
As he was entering a village, ten lepers met [him].
They stood at a distance from him
and raised their voice, saying, “Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!”

And when he saw them, he said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.”
As they were going they were cleansed.
And one of them, realizing he had been healed,
returned, glorifying God in a loud voice;
and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him.
He was a Samaritan.
Jesus said in reply, “Ten were cleansed, were they not?
Where are the other nine?
Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?”
Then he said to him, “Stand up and go; your faith has saved you.”

GENERAL INTERCESSION

With faith and confidence, let us now raise our

hands to God the Father who continues to guide us
through His Word. In Jesus we pray:
LORD, INCREASE OUR FAITH.
1. (Kankanaey)That those who work in the service of the Church, may have the
grace and wisdom to touch the lives and hearts of many as they share gifts of
faith to others. Let us pray to the Lord:

2. (Ibaloi)That our gift of faith reminds us of ways to serve those in our midst, who
are overlooked, ignored or rejected, especially the children who have no
opportunity to receive the gift of education because of poverty, so that all may
experience Christ’s love through others. Let us pray to the Lord:

3. (Ifugao)That our devotion to St. Paul and St. James, enable us to share their faith
and as we journey through life, follow God’s plan of love for us with joy. Let us
pray to the Lord:

4. (Filipino)That our parents, guardians and teachers may be blessed abundantly as

we offer them our gratitude for the gift of our seminary formation that shaped us
to become persons that we are today. Let us pray to the Lord

5. (Iloko)That our class of St. Michael the Archangel may keep alive and live out
our motto: Remain in my love, may inspire, explore, value life and excel in
whatever field we may choose to serve one day. Let us pray to the Lord:

6. (English)That our beloved dead, the members of our families, our beloved
formators who served our seminary unconditionally, the teachers, the staffs and
the seminarians mat enjoy everlasting peace in God’s presence. Let us pray to the
Lord.

The bishop then say the concluding prayer:

Father, thank you for guiding us

along the right path.
Listen to our prayers
and bless each one of us
in the way you know best.
May we follow wherever you lead us.

 LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST
PRESENTATION OF GIFTS:
The offertory song is sung. Meanwhile, the ministers place the corporal, the purificator,
the chalice, the pall, and the Missal on the Altar.
The Priest will receive the offerings. He is to be helped by the servers assigned.

After the Offerings have been received, the Priest, standing at the altar, takes the paten
with the bread and holds it slightly raised above the altar with both hands, saying in a
low voice:

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your
goodness we have received the bread we offer you: Fruit of
the earth and work of human hands,
It will become for us the bread of life.

Then he places the paten with the bread on the corporal. He then takes the chalice and
holds it slightly raised above the altar with both hands, saying in a low voice:

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your
goodness we have received the wine we offer you: Fruit of
the vine and work of human hands, it will become our
spiritual drink.

After this, the bishop bowing profoundly says quietly:

With humble spirit and contrite heart.

May we be accepted by you, o Lord, and may our sacrifice in
your sight this day, be pleasing to you, Lord God.
The Priest incenses the offerings, the cross, and the altar. A minister or the server then
incenses the Priest(s) and the People.

Then the Priest, standing at the side of the altar, washes his hands, saying quietly:

Wash me, O Lord, from my iniquity and cleanse me from my

sin.

Standing at the middle of the altar, facing the people, extending and then joining his hands,
he says:

Pray brethren that my sacrifice and yours

may be acceptable to God the almighty Father.
The people rise and reply:

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands

for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good and the good of all his holy church.

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS

With hands extended, the Bishop sings or says:

Cleanse us, Lord, by the saving baptism of your

Son's Passion,
so that on the Feast of Saint James,
whom you willed to be the first among the Apostles
to drink of Christ’s chalice of suffering,
we may offer a sacrifice pleasing to you.
Through Christ our Lord.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER III

The Priest, with hands extended, says:

You are indeed Holy, O Lord,

and all you have created rightly gives you praise,
for through your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
by the power and working of the Holy Spirit,
you give life to all things and make them holy,
and you never cease to gather a people to yourself,
so that from the rising of the sun to its setting
a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name.
He joins his hands and, holding them extended over the offerings, says:

Therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you:

by the same Spirit graciously make holy
these gifts we have brought to you for consecration,
He joins his hands
and makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and chalice together, saying:

that they may become the Body and  Blood

of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
He joins his hands.

at whose command we celebrate these mysteries.

In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced clearly and
distinctly, as the nature of these words requires.

For on the night he was betrayed

He takes the bread
and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

he himself took bread, and, giving you thanks, he

said the blessing, broke the bread and gave it to his
disciples, saying:
He bows slightly.

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU,

AND EAT OF IT,
FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten, and genuflects in
adoration.
After this, he continues:

In a similar way, when supper was ended,

He takes the chalice
and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

he took the chalice, and, giving you thanks, he said

the blessing, and gave the chalice to his disciples,
saying:

THE LORD’S PRAYER

At the Savior’s Command

and formed by divine teaching,
we dare to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
The Presider with hands extended, continues alone:

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,

graciously grant peace in our day
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
As a rule, this acclamation is sung if the Lord’s prayer is sung.
R. For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours, now and for ever.

SIGN OF PEACE

Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles:

Peace I leave you, my peace I give you.
Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your
Church,
and graciously grant her the peace and unity
in accordance with your will
who live for ever and ever.

The peace of the Lord be with you always.

R. And with your spirit.
Then, if appropriate, the Deacon, or the Priest, adds:
Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
All present make an appropriate sign of peace.

BREAKING OF THE BREAD

AGNUS DEI

The assembly sings the Agnus Dei.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world:

have mercy on us.

grant us peace.
Meanwhile, the presider takes the host and breaks it over the paten. He places a small piece in the
chalice, saying inaudibly:

bring eternal life to us who receive it.
PRIVATE PREPARATION
The Presider says inaudibly:

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,

Who, by the will of the Father and the work of the Holy Spirit
Through your death gave life to the world.
free me by this, by your holy Body and Blood,
from all may sins and from every evil;
Keep me faithful to your commandments,
and never let me be parted from you.
COMMUNION
The presider genuflects. Taking the host, he raises it slightly over the paten and, facing the people,
says aloud:

Behold the Lamb of God

behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
R. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
The presider says inaudibly:

May the body of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.

He reverently consumes the body of Christ. Then he takes the chalice and says inaudibly:

May the blood of Christ keep me safe for eternal life.

He reverently drinks the blood of Christ.

After this he takes the paten or other vessel and goes to the communicants. He takes a host for each
one, raises it a little, and shows it, saying:

The Body of Christ.

R. Amen.

 While the faithful receive Holy Communion, Eucharistic Hymns are sung.
Then all stand for the prayer after communion.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

The presider, standing before the altar says the prayer.

Let us pray.
Pause for silent prayer.

Help us, O Lord, we pray,

through the intercession of the blessed Apostle
James,
on whose feast day we have received with joy your
holy gifts.
Through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.

BLESSING OF THE GRADUATES, DIPLOMAS AND
MEDALS
Commentator: At this juncture, we join the bishop in silent prayer
as he will bless the graduates and these symbols of
academic achievements of the graduating class.
Please stand.

Our help is in the name of the Lord.

R. Who made heaven and earth.

Let us pray.
Pause for silent prayer.

Eternal God,
source of every gift and talent,
through your Son Jesus Christ,
rant us your blessings especially
to our graduates.
Bless these medals and diplomas,
symbols of their academic endeavor.
Confer upon these graduates here today
the gift of your Holy Spirit,
that they may remain humble of heart
as they serve you in their professional life.
Bring them all into the peace
of your kingdom.
Where all honor and glory are yours,
Lord our God, forever and ever.
R. Amen.

The Bishop sprinkles Holy Water upon the graduates, diplomas, and medals. Afterwards they are
incensed.
ANNOUNCEMENT

Commentator: After the Holy Mass, everyone will have to leave

the chapel immediately and shall proceed to the
gymnasium. After everybody has left, the
graduating class will remain in the chapel to pray
for the last time as a class. After so, the parents
will enter the chapel and invest the graduates with
their academic attire. No group picture taking shall
be held in the chapel after the mass.

THE CONCLUDING RITES
Then the dismissal takes place. The Priest, facing the people and extending his hands, says:

The Lord be with you.

R./ And with your spirit.

May God, who has granted you

to stand firm on apostolic foundations,
graciously bless you through the glorious merits
of the holy Apostle James.
R./ Amen.

And may he who endowed you

with the teaching and example of the Apostles,
make you, under their protection,
witnesses to the truth before all.
R./ Amen.

So that through the intercession of the Apostles,

you may inherit the eternal homeland,
for by their teaching you possess firmness of faith.
R./ Amen.

The celebrant receives the miter and extending his hands, says:
And may the blessing of almighty God,
 the Father,  and the Son,  and the Holy Spirit,
come down on you and remain with you for ever.
R./ Amen.
