Introduction
The project focuses on the characterization of coffee production systems in the municipality of
Popayán, to implement agroforestry systems that allow increasing crop yields and mitigating the
problems caused by climate change.

Next, each of the arrangements will be evaluated in aspects related to vegetative growth, nutrient
contribution and absorption, biomass production, carbon capture, radiation interception, coffee
production and quality.

Once the project is being executed, an environmental education campaign and sustainability of
production systems will be carried out, in addition to carrying out socializations, workshops,
seminars and a radio program of the partial and final results of the evaluations carried out and the
new technologies obtained. .

Goals

General objective

Evaluate the pre-feasibility of the production and marketing of “special export-type coffee,
sustainable category”, in its dry parchment coffee presentation, from the “el café de la
grandmother” farm located in the municipality of Popayán.

Specific objectives
• Carry out a legal study that allows identifying records, norms and standards for the
production and marketing of specialty coffees, a sustainable category.
• Carry out a market study to determine the demand and potential supply of Specialty
Coffees, in the commercial demand of possible and future international buyers (target
market).
• Carry out a productive technical study to determine the quantities and forms of
production processes.
• Partner with Caficauca to market coffee at a premium.
Sector perspectives Coffee culture

It has forged the social and economic environment of the country, not only at the level of rural
development, but also as a window of insertion of the local economy in the international context
and an important source of foreign currency, which contributed decisively to the growth and
modernization of the national industry and commerce. (FNC- Cenicafé, 2013, page 21) Based on
the above and the importance of the development of coffee growing in the sustenance of the
country, critical scenarios are foreseen since the conditions of climate change such as the “El Niño
Phenomenon” threaten the productivity and on the other hand, coffee consumption in the world is
increasing. Likewise, Fedesarrollo estimates assumptions at the national level in a low, medium and
high scenario in coffee production and the dollar price per pound.
Purpose of the Business Plan

Promote and optimize the effectiveness of the processes implicit in the production of “sustainable
coffee”, under quality standards both nationally and internationally.

General information

The Future Company The agricultural system “grandmother's coffee” envisions entering the market
for differentiated coffees, a sustainable category. Clearly this company has a large area of land and
for practical purposes of the project the planting of special coffee, Castillo variety will be delimited
in thirty (1) hectare with a planting density of 5,500 trees per 1.3*1.3 square meter. It is also
intended to make an alliance with the exporter “CAFICAUCA”, an export company that executes
social projects for specialty coffee producers. Villa Cafetera will offer dry parchment coffee under
the CAFICAUCA guidelines, complying with a good export-type cup and with the seals of quality.
Finally the product will be sold at the CAFICAUCA thresher.

Among the processes carried out on the farm are:

• Almacigo construction
• Preparation and adaptation of the land
• Laid out and drilled
• Sowing of the seedbed
• Fertilization (foliar, liquid either edaphic)
• Weed control
• Phytosanitary controls
• Tree removal
• Fruit collection
• Pulping, washing and drying
• Dry parchment packaging
It is important to mention that based on coffee sector standards, it is said that at the national level
the coffee year runs from October 1 of each year to September 30 of the next year and the coffee
harvest is the time in which the coffee grower recovers everything invested during the year. On the
“grandmother's coffee” farm, 5,000 kilograms of dry parchment coffee are collected, between
September and mid-December, in this season around 10 and 15 coffee pickers are received per
week, 100% of them are from the zone. At the beginning of January the coffee trees are defoliated
and with very few nutrients, therefore the lots are improved both in production and renewal, with
the help of good fertilization mixtures, this process is done 3 times a year in order to receive again
a very productive harvest
Short term goals
• Plant 5,500 Castillo Rosario coffee trees
• Obtain flo fairtrade and reiforest quality seal
• Build administrative office Medium-term objectives
• Collect arrobas of coffee cherry
• Modify the structure of the coffee mill
• Acquire a coffee silo of 500 arrobas
• Technify the dry parchment coffee packaging process
Long-term goals
Plant 10,000 plantain hills
