TOPIC 14. CHILDREN'S PATTERN dream

1. INTRODUCTION TO CHILDREN'S PATTERN

Children's pattern making is built from fundamental bases that are the body base
pattern, the skirt base pattern and the pants base pattern. From them you can
make patterns for countless garments. Children have cor very different pores
depending depending on age.
Therefore, to tra go down with
children's patterns, you have to make
a division into three blocks that,
taking into account the age and
physical constitution of the minor:
- The first block refers to babies,
with some sizes: standard that
range from 0-2 months to 24
months, with intervals of 3
months at the beginning and 6
months at the end.
- The second block refers to
children between 3 and 9 years
old, with intervals of 1 year.
- The third block refers to
preadolescents and
adolescents. between 10 and
14 years old. There are pattern bases for each block, while the physical
characteristics differ from one to another. In this chapter:
- The pattern bases of the second and third blocks are analyzed. The pattern
bases of the first block are drawn following the same steps indicated for the
bases of the second block (a table with the industrial measurements of the
sizes of the first block is attached in the annex).
- It explains how to make the base skirt pattern for the second size block. The
layout of the skirt base of the third block is achieved by following the steps
explained for the women's base skirt in the chapter

2. In the annex to this
chapter title, a table is
attached with the industrial
measurements for the layout
of the skirt base of the third
block.
- Guidelines are given for
laying out the base of the
body of the second and third
blocks. The base body pattern
is unisex for both blocks. The
base trouser pattern is drawn
following the same steps that
have been explained for the
men's pattern in chapter 3. In
the annex to this chapter, some tables are attached with the industrial
measurements of the pants of the second and third blocks. that.
- The layout of the dress base of the second block is explained. To draw the
third block dress base pattern, follow the steps explained in the section
dedicated to the dress base pattern. In the annex to this chapter, a table is
attached with the industrial measurements for the layout of the dress base
for sizes 10 to 14.
The layout of each of the bases is explained
in a few steps. Each step is indicated with
an acronym and a number. grouper, which
refer to the measurement applied in each
step and the order to follow.
These explanations are accompanied by a
graph that completes them.
It must be remembered that the pattern
bases do not include seam allowances.
These bases must be tested on the
mannequin and modified before being
finalized. It is because of him that, in the
final pattern section of each

2. SKIRT BASE PATTERN

The base skirt pattern is a

fundamental scheme from which you
can They can trace the patterns of a
wide number of skirt designs.
In children's pattern making, there is
a base skirt pattern for the second
block (girls from 3 to 9 years old) and
a different one for the third (girls
from 10 to 14 years old):
- The skirt base of the first block
which is an A-line without a
clip. It does not have a clip due to the characteristics physical characteristics
of girls of these ages. An A-line is taken as a basis since it is the most
common shape of skirt in designs for this age group.
- The skirt base for the second block is straight and with darts, in the front and
back. The physical characteristics of girls between 10 and 14 years old make it
necessary to apply tweezers in this pattern. For this age group, straight skirts are
designed. Hence, this skirt scheme is used to cover a wide number of designs.
Below are all the necessary steps to make a skirt base pattern for the second block
(for girls between 3 and 9 years old).
To draw the skirt base pattern for the second size block, the following
measurement points are taken into account: waist circumference, hip
circumference, hip length and skirt length. Below is a table with industrial
measurements for sizes 3 to 9 years.

To draw this skirt base pattern, pattern paper and a mechanical pencil with a hard
lead (2H-6H) are used. Prepare a piece of paper with approximate measurements
of 40 cm long and 77 cm wide (if you work with larger sizes, the paper
measurements will be a little larger).

2.1 FORWARD

The step by step for creating the front

pattern is as follows: 1. Draw a vertical
line with the details of skirt lengths:
0: point 0 is marked in the upper left
corner of the paper, leaving a few cm
of margin at the top rior.
0-L1: hip length is applied.
0-L2: Skirt length is applied.
2. Draw perpendicular lines from the
previously marked points (0, L1 and L2).
3. Apply the widths of the pattern on
these lines:
0-A1: 1/4 of the waist contour is
applied.
L1-A2: 1/4 of the hip contour is
applied.
4. Draw the waist of the skirt:
A1-C: square point A1 1 cm upwards.
Point 0 is joined to point C with a
slightly curved line, as indicated on the
graph.
5. Draw the side of the skirt:
Point C is joined to A2 with a straight
line, as indicated in the graph.
81: The line C-A2 is extended until it intersects the line that starts from point L2.
6. Draw the bottom of the pattern:
A3- B1: applied 1 cm upwards on line A3-C.

right corner, leaving a few cm of
margin at the top of the paper.
0E-LE1: hip length is applied.
OE- LE2: the skirt length

3. BODY BASE PATTERN

The base pattern of the child's body is an elementary scheme from which the
pattern of a large number of garment designs can be drawn: blouses, ca masses,
hunters...
The base child body pattern is unisex. There is a base pattern for the se second
block and another for the third:
- The base of the second block does not need a clamp due to the physical
characteristics of children of these ages.

- The base of the third block has a waist
clip, both in the front and in the back.
For the layout of these pa For body
bases, pattern paper and a mechanical
pencil with a hard lead (2H-6H) are
used. A piece of pattern paper is
prepared for the front and another for
the back. The approximate
measurements will be 30cm long and
18cm wide for the second block,
and 40 cm long and 22 cm wide for the third (if you work with the larger
sizes, the paper measurements will be a little larger). To draw the body base, the
following measurement points are taken into account: neck contour, chest
contour, waist contour, with hip circumference, back width, chest length, front
waist length, back waist length, shoulder length and hip length.

4. DRESS BASE PATTERN

The base pattern for a girl's dress is one

of the most important bases of

Below are all the necessary steps to make a dress base pattern for the second

To create this base pattern, you only need to measure the length of the dress.
Below is a table with the length measurements of the dress. ted.
To draw this dress base pattern, start from the body base of the second block.

5. SCALING

5.1 BASICS OF SCALING

In children's pattern making, the measurements for scaling garments of the three
blocks Sizes are distributed as follows:
- Contours: the total chest, hip and waist contour varies 2 cm per size; The
neck circumference varies 6 mm per size.
- Length: lengths vary 5 mm per size; In the third block, the chest length varies
7 mm per size.
- Shoulder length: varies 3 mm per size.
In scaling you work with mm, unlike in pattern making, where you usually work
with cm. Taking into account the variations between sizes described above Initially,
certain points of the pattern will be varied to obtain the sizes that interest you:
- If you are working to get the pattern in a larger size, you will increase or
increase mm in certain points.
- If you want to get a smaller size, you must decrease or lower mm in certain
points.
Below are the steps to follow for scaling the dress in the second block. The way to
get a larger size from the previously drawn base size is explained. If you want to
draw the pattern for another size, you should only repeat the operation described,
this time on the size that has been scaled, instead of on the base size. If you want
to go one size smaller, you should go down and reduce the points indicated. two,
instead of going up and up.
