Key Concepts in Robotics
robotics
1. Actuators: transducer, which transforms electrical signals into mechanical
movements.
concept
2. Algorithm: defined set of rules or processes for solving a problem in a finite
number of steps.
3. Analog : representation of a variable or information through values that vary
continuously. It is opposed to numerical or digital.
s
4. Animation : Creation, using the computer, of moving images for display on the
screen.
5. Angular : see Coordinates
6. Armor : Set of elements of the manipulator, where the arm is articulated to perform
its work.
7. Automaton : device that contains within itself the necessary mechanisms to execute
certain movements or tasks similar to those performed by man, manifesting itself as
an animated being capable of imitating gestures.
8. Automatic : Science that tries to replace the human operator in a process with a
certain device, generally electromechanical.
9. Automation : This is the name given to any task performed by machines instead of
people. It is the replacement of manual procedures with computer systems.
10. Autooperator : Non-reprogrammable automatic manipulator.
11. Asimov, Isaac : Russian writer and scientist, important science fiction author. He
used the word “Robotics” in his work “Runaround”, and it became very popular
from a series of short stories called “I Robot”, written since 1950. Well known for
his reference to robots and their implications in the world of the future. Author of
the famous laws of robotics.
12. Swing : One of the three movements allowed to the robot's wrist. So called because
of similarity to the corresponding movement of a ship or airplane. Rotating
movement around a longitudinal (horizontal) axis of a ship.
13. Robot arm : One of the parts of the manipulator. Supported at its base, it supports
and operates the wrist (where the object-gripping tool is installed).
14. Pitch : One of the three movements allowed to the robot's wrist. So called because
of similarity to the corresponding movement of a ship or airplane. Rotating
movement around an axis transverse to the ship.
15. Kinematic chain : Set of mechanical elements that support the tool or tool of the
robot (base, armor, wrist, etc.).
16. Capek, Karel : Czech playwright, who mentioned the word “Robot” for the first
time in 1917 in a story called “Opilec”, and it was spread in a more popular work of
his called “Rossum's Universal Robots”, which dates from 1921. Robot derives
from “robotnik”, with which it defined the “work slave”, and with it it designated a
mechanical contraption with a human appearance and capable of tirelessly
developing tasks that until now were reserved for men.
17. Cartesian , coordinates: (see Coordinates)
18. Chip : (pill). chip. Small piece of silicon on which an integrated electronic circuit is
manufactured. A single chip can replace thousands of transistors, resistors and
diodes, and one chip can even contain the entire Central Processing Unit (CPU) of a
microcomputer.
19. Cybernetics : Comparative study of organic processes and processes carried out by
machines, in order to understand their similarities and differences, and ensure that
machines imitate human behavior.
20. Kinematic : In robotics this term is used to refer to the drives of a manipulator that
involve a direct physical connection between the operator's controls and the
terminal element.
