the coil from rotating freely.
• People must be located at points no more than 5 m away in a number of 1 or 2 people depending
on the weight and length of the cable to be pulled.
• Mark the section to be installed with TAG on masking tape. For short sections it will only be
necessary to mark the ends. In long sections, markings will be made at least every ten (10) meters
of cable and at the entrance or exit of mailboxes or conduits. This mark is temporary and must be
replaced by a system of identification cards, attached with ribbons or stickers.
• Cover the end of the cable with insulating tape, seal with heat shrink tape depending on the length,
no splices are allowed.
• During laying, the maximum curvature radii stipulated by the manufacturer must be respected and
special care must be taken with the tensile stress to which they are subjected.
• Lubricant (paraffin) will be used if necessary, when the cable enters the cable ducts with difficulty.
• The cable should be unwound from the top of the coil. The coil must be supported with an axis on
the trestles or jacks, rotating it by hand, without producing traction efforts. When pulling the cable,
it should be done gently and continuously, feeding at all times from the beginning of the coil.
• To avoid damage to the cable, whether in its sheath, its insulation or its fibers, its laying will be
done in such a way that the largest possible curvature radius can be achieved while the installation
conditions allow it. If it is not specified in the Project engineering, the curvature radius will be 7 –
12 times the diameter of the cable, depending on the section or gauge of the cable.
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS Doc.:
Rev.:
PROCEDURE Page13 of 28
