Example:
• Before we left home, I had had my breakfast.
• Provided they come, we can start class on Tuesday.
• When he was washing my car, I went to the store.
• Even though the weather was horrible, they still went outside.
CORRELATIVE CONJUNCTIONS
Either……or, Neither……nor, Not only……but (also),
Both……and, Whether……or, Although……Yet
Just as……so, As……as, As much……as, Rather……than,
No sooner……than, Hardly/Barely/Scarcely……when
Example:
• Neither Alka nor Riya can play baseball.
• I want both ice cream and cake.
• He ate not only the cake but also the chocolate.

v THE CONJUNCTION SO-AS AND AS-AS IS USED TO MAKE
COMPARISON BETWEEN TWO PERSONS AND THINGS.
‘SO-AS’ IS USED IN NEGATIVE SENTENCES.
E.X - HE IS NOT SO GOOD AS YOU.
BUT ‘AS-AS’ IS USED IN BOTH AFFIRMATIVE AND NEGATIVE
SENTENCES
EX : HE IS AS GOOD AS YOU.
HE IS NOT AS GOOD AS YOU.
v In Affirmative sentences ->doubt and doubtful are followed
by if/ whether.
In Negative or Interrogative sentences ->
doubt and doubtful are followed by that.
E.g. I doubt if he will come.
I do not doubt that he will come.
RULES
1. Put a comma before the coordinating conjunction when it is
used to connect two independent clauses.
Ex: Tom walked the dog, and he grabbed the mail.
Incorrect: I want to go see a movie but my sister has my car.
Correct: I want to go see a movie, but my sister has my car.
NOTE :- When using a coordinating conjunction to connect two
items, do not use a comma.
Ex:
Incorrect: She likes apples, and bananas.
Correct: She likes apples and bananas.

4. If two subjects are joined by correlative conjunctions of
choice such as either_ _ or, neither_ _nor , not only_ _but also,
whether-or etc. The verb is used according to the nearest
subject.
