Pulse Count Changes After Exercise

The document describes an experiment to study the effect of exercise on pulse count. Students counted their pulse before, immediately after, and 15 minutes after exercise. They recorded the data and calculated averages at each stage, then plotted the results on a bar graph. Questions analyze the results and ask students to explain changes in pulse count during exercise and how the body maintains homeostasis.

Topics: Homeostasis

Title of experiment: Pulse count

Aim: To study the effect of intense exercise to number of pulse count

Problem statement:
1. Does exercising change the pulse count?
2. Does corrective mechanism occur after exercise and affect the pulse count?

Hypothesis:

Materials:

Apparatus:

Variables:
A. Manipulated:

B. Constant:

C. Responding:

Procedure:
1. Each student is required to count their pulse for 1 minute when at rest (before exercise),
right after doing exercise, and 15 minutes after exercise. (3 stages)
2. Obtain pulse count data from at least two classmates.
3. Record the three students pulse count in a table.
4. Calculate the average pulse count for each stage.
5. With the data recorded, plot a bar graph of pulse count against stage of activity.

Procedure: Rewrite the procedure in passive form.

Research Questions

1. According to the result, which stage has the highest average pulse count for the three
students? (1 mark)

2. Based on the data obtained, explain the reason why pulse count changes during exercise.
(5 marks)

3. Compare the resting pulse count (before exercise) of the three students. Give reasons to why
this happens? (4 marks)

4. Beside pulse count, what other changes did you observe during your exercise that suggested
the body was able to maintain homeostasis after exercise. (3 marks)

5. Suggest how we can train our bodies to change our resting pulse count. (4 marks)
6. Predict what would happen if your pulse rate failed to increase during exercise and describe
why. (2 marks)

7. Conclusion (1 mark)
