After the discussion, students will be able to:

1. Define goals, self-efficacy, mindset, and goal setting;


2. Distinguish the differences between a fixed mindset and
a growth mindset;
3. Write a short essay on the importance of believing in
one’s self to attain a growth mindset based on the
poem;
4. Appreciate the value of having proper mindset prior to
goal setting to achieve success thru formulating lifetime
goals creatively;
o You reviewed for a week, yet you did not
reach the passing score for your Exams

o You practiced your moves for a month but


still, you did not make it even to the first level
of the college dance auditions

o You tried to voice out your opinion in class,


but people misinterpreted what you said.

What is a GOAL?
Denotative Meaning:
❖ something that you are trying to do or achieve
❖ the end toward which effort is directed
❖ aim, objective, target, intention

Connotative Meaning:
➢ Something you work hard for!
▪ Goals and actions are like yin and yang:
a perfect balance.

▪ You will not achieve your goals if you don’t


take certain actions to achieve them, and you
surely will not take the right actions if they are
not needed to achieve your goals.

What is SELF-EFFICACY?
Denotative Meaning:
❖ an individual's belief in his or her capacity to
execute behaviors necessary to produce
specific performance attainments
❖ reflects confidence in the ability to exert control
over one's own motivation, behavior, and social
environment.

“Self-belief does not necessarily ensure success,
but self-disbelief assuredly spawns failure.”

Denotative Meaning:
❖ a powerful process for thinking about your ideal
future, and for motivating yourself to turn your
