Chapter – 4 “My Body”

D. Answer the following questions: -


1. What are the external and internal parts of the body?
Ans. External Organs are head, neck, trunk, arms and legs. Internal organs are
heart, brain, lungs, stomach, etc.

2. What is the role of brain in our body?


Ans. The brain is boss of our body. It helps us think, move, feel, and helps us to
show emotions.

3. Our Ears are very important. What do they do?


Ans. Our ears help us hear sounds, music, etc. We should protect them from
loud noises to stay healthy.

4. How is a tongue useful to us?


Ans. Tongue helps us to taste different flavours like sweet, sour, bitter, etc.
5. What are the two most important things we do with our mouth?
Ans. With our mouths, we eat food to stay healthy and speak to communicate
with others.

6. What is the function of nose?


Ans. Nose helps us to smell different fragrances like flowers, perfumes. It also
helps us to breathe.

7. Name the five sense organs of human body?


Ans. Eyes, Ears, Nose, Tongue and Skin.
8. Name the longest part of our body.
Ans. Skin

Ans. Energy-giving foods, Body-building foods and protective foods.
2. Why are fruits and vegetables important for us?
Ans. This is so because they keep us healthy and strong.
3. What is the difference between energy-giving foods and body-building
foods?
Ans. Energy-giving foods like Wheat and rice give us energy to work and play
while Body-building foods like pulses and curd help in making muscles and blood.

4. What is a balanced diet?


Ans. A balanced diet is a diet which contains all nutrients, vitamins and minerals
in a right amount.

5. Why should we avoid junk foods?


Ans. This is so because they are not healthy and can harm our body and teeth.
6. Name the three meals in a day.
Ans. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
7. Why we eat food every day?
Ans. We eat food every day because it is important to stay alive.
Chapter – 7 “Different Houses”

D. Answer the following questions: -


1. Why do we need a house?
Ans. Our house protects us from the weather, thieves and wild animals. We feel
rest, peace, comfort and happiness inside the house.

2. Name some special houses.


Ans. Stilt, tent, igloo, caravan and houseboat.
3. How is a tent different from caravan?
Ans. Tent is a house made of cloth called ‘canvas’ and easy to set up. A caravan is
a mobile home on wheels pulled by animals or car.

4. Where can you find an igloo? Who lives in them?


Ans. An igloo is a house made of snow found at cold places, at Poles. The Eskimos
and Inuit lives in them.

5. What things should be done for keeping the house clean?


Ans. Keep things at proper places.
The house should be mop and swept every day.

Do Dusting every day.

Keep the kitchen clean and free from insects.

6. How can we decorate our homes?


Ans. We can decorate homes by Wall paintings, flowerpots and making colourful
rangolis.

7. Where does the houseboat find?


Ans. It is found on Dal Lake of Kashmir and in backwaters of Kerela.
8. What are the safety measures needed to be taken in the house?
Ans. A house should have boundary wall, strong latches to lock doors and
windows and wire nettings to get rid of insects.
9. Describe the difference between types of houses.
Ans. There are two types of houses.

It is also called as temporary houses. It is also called as permanent houses.
Made up of hay and straw. Made up of bricks, stones and cement.

1. Name the four main directions.
Ans. North, South, East and West.
2. What are landmarks?
Ans. Landmarks are places or a thing which we can easily see and help us to know
where we are or find the way around.

3. How are the direction words helpful?


Ans. The direction words help to find our way easily.
4. What is a scale of a map?
Ans. The scale of a map is 1 cm on the map represents 100km in real life.
5. In a map, Which colour is used to show
a) Water Bodies – Blue Colour
b) Land Spaces- Green Colour
6. Define Atlas.
Ans. A book of maps is called an atlas.
7. What is a map?
Ans. A map is a drawing of an area that shows where the things are like towns,
roads, rivers.

8. If you are facing the rising sun, where do the four directions lie?
Ans. If we face the sun with our hands stretched sideways, the right hand
points toward south and left hand to north. The sun rises in east and the west is

at our back.

9. Can you tell why symbols are used?


Ans. Symbols are simpler to draw and understand. These are used to indicate
the place of real objects on map.
Chapter – 10 “Keeping in Touch”

1. What do you mean by communication?
Ans. Communication means sharing ideas and understanding others. We use
letters, phones, TV and the Internet to talk to each other.

2. What is the cheapest means of communication?


Ans. Letters.
3. What is the fastest means of communication?
Ans. Internet
4. What are the benefits of mobile phones or cellular phones?
Ans. We can take them anywhere. We can make and receive calls while traveling
and send text and picture messages. It helps us to stay in touch easily.

5. Write the steps to send a letter.


Ans. Here are the steps to send a letter:
 Write your letter.

 Put it in a envelope and seal it.

 Go to the post office.

 Buy stamps and paste them on the envelope.

 Write the contact address and PIN code on envelope.

 Post the letter in a letterbox.

6. Write any five uses of Internet.

Ans. The five uses of Internet are-

8. What is Mass Media? Give the types of mass media.
Ans. Communication with the large number of people at the same time is called
mass communication. Ex- newspapers, radios, etc.
There are 2 types of media – Print media like magazines, newspapers, and

electronic media like radio, television.

9. In ancient times, how people send letters?


Ans. People used pigeons to send letters.
10. Define Speed Post.
Ans. Speed Post is a fast mail service for sending letters and parcels quickly.
