1. A particle is dropped from the top of a tower 100 m high. After one second another particle is projected
upwards from the foot of the tower which meets the first particle at a height of 18m. Find the velocity
with which the second particle was projected. CO5
2. A bullet of weight 50 gm is fired into a body of weight 5 kg, which is suspended by a string 1 m long.
Due to this impact, the 5 kg body swings through an angle of 30º from the vertical. Calculate the
velocity of the bullet. CO5
3. The speed of a flywheel changes from 10 rad/s to 30 rad/s in 5 seconds time. Determine the angular
acceleration of the wheel. How many revolutions the wheel would turn to attain a speed of 600 rev/min?
4. Two blocks of weight 150 N and 50 N are connected by a string and passing over a frictionless pulley as
shown in figure 7. Determine the acceleration of blocks A and B and the tension in the string. CO5

5. Two weights 80 N and 20 N are connected by a thread and move along a rough horizontal plane under
the action of a force 40 N, applied to the first weight of 80 N as shown in figure 8. The coefficient of
friction between the sliding surfaces of the wrights and the plane is 0.3. Determine the acceleration of
the weights and the tension in the thread using work-energy equation. CO04

6. The motion a particle is given by a=t3-3t2+5, where ‘a’ is the acceleration in m/sec 2 and ‘t’ is time in
second. The velocity of the particle at t =1 sec is 6.25 m/sec and the displacement is 8.30 meters.
Calculate the displacement and the velocity at t = 2 sec. CO5
7. A cylinder of mass 5 kg and radius 50 mm is suspended from a cord that is wound around its
circumference. If the cylinder is allowed to fall freely. Find acceleration of its mass center G and tension
in the cord. CO5
8. A cylinder roller, 50 cm diameter is in contact with two conveyor belts at its top and bottom. If the belts
run at a uniform speed of 5 m/s and 3 m/s. find linear velocity and angular velocity of roller.
9. A particle starting from rest moves in a straight line whose acceleration is given by relation a=10-
0.006s2, where a is in m/ s2 and s is in m. Determine:
(i) Velocity of the particle when it has travelled 50m.
(ii) Distance travelled by the particle when it comes to rest. CO5

10. A cylinder weighing 500N is welded to a 1m long uniform bar of 200N weight as shown in figure 9.
Determine the acceleration with which the assembly will rotate about point A, if released from
horizontal position. Determine the reaction at A at this instant. CO5

Q9. Determine the magnitude of the couple M required to maintain the equilibrium of the mechanism.
Q10. Determine the expressions for q and for the tension in the spring which correspond to the equilibrium position of
the spring. The outstretched length of the spring is h and the constant of the spring is k. Neglect the weight of the

mechanism.
