Script:

SCENE 1

Narrator: Macbeth and Banquo are lying unconscious after defeating the THANE OF CAWDOR.
Gradually both of them wake up.

Macbeth: Banquo!

Banquo: Macbeth!

Macbeth: Do you see this massacre?

Banquo: I can see it.

Narrator: Banquo and Macbeth walk their way back to the palace, through the forest while they are
having a conversation and suddenly spot 3 witches.

Macbeth: What's the point of this all? So many lives lost. So many men dead. And only
for one man's greed. And, in the end, nobody has won anything. Is the fury of battle and war
consuming me, or can I withstand it?

Banquo: You can.

Macbeth: Thank you, my friend. I hope I can.

Banquo: We won, my friend. The king will be pleased with us. You were very brave today.
The thane of Cawdor is defeated.

Macbeth: Indeed, we fought very well. Look over there!

Banquo: Who are you? Are you women, or are you spirits?

SCENE 2
 Witch 1: Welcome Macbeth, thane of Glamis.

Macbeth: How do you know who I am?

Witch 2: Welcome, Macbeth, thane of Cawdor.

Macbeth: Thane of Cawdor? But I'm not the thane of Cawdor!

Witch 3: Welcome, Macbeth, King of Scotland!

Banquo: You tell my friend he'll be thane of Cawdor, then King of Scotland. What about me?
What will be MY future?

Witch 1: You'll be less than Macbeth, but more than Macbeth.

Witch 2: You will be less lucky than Macbeth, but more fortunate.

Witch 3: You will never be king, but you will be the father of kings.

Narrator: The witches disappear

Macbeth: How strange? They said I would be thane of Cawdor, then king! And that you
would be the father of kings! I don't know who they are, but I don't believe what they said!
It's total nonsense!

Banquo: Yes, indeed, I agree my friend.

 SCENE 3
Narrator: Macbeth and Banquo stay the night between the woods, Macbeth then writes a
letter and gives it to the Guard Fleance.

Fleance: My lord!

Macbeth: Fleance.

Fleance: Congratulations on your victory!

Macbeth: Thank you.

Fleance: The king wants to reward you - he wants you to be the new thane of Cawdor.

Macbeth: Really? I will happily accept his proposal. Oh, and also - can you deliver this to
lady Macbeth?

Fleance: As you wish, my lord.

SCENE 4
Narrator: Lady Macbeth finds the letter and reads it aloud.

Lady Macbeth: "Prepare everything for King Duncan's visit. We must talk about what the
witches told me! Thane of Cawdor, king of Scotland - what can it mean?"

Macbeth: My queen.

Lady Macbeth: Macbeth! You must act very cheerfully and innocently during the king's visit.
Leave everything to me - Duncan will never leave this castle alive!

Macbeth: We cannot kill the king! He's been a good friend to me and I can't murder him!

Lady Macbeth: Why did you tell me about the three witches,
then? Don't you want to be king? Are you just frightened? Be brave, and we can have the
throne!

Macbeth: Bu- But if we fail? What happens to us, if we fail?

Lady Macbeth: Don't worry - I've got a plan! Duncan's room is guarded by two soldiers. I'll
make sure that they drink a lot of wine, and then they
won't know what's happening! So, it'll be easy for us to go into the king's room and
kill him!

Macbeth: You're right - no one will think it was us! And then we'll blame the soldiers for the
murder! Perfect plan!

SCENE 5
Narrator: Lady Macbeth gets both the Guards drunk and then they proceed to kill the king.

Lady Macbeth: Well? Tell me, did you do it?

Macbeth: Duncan is dead! I have done a terrible thing! This blood will never go away!
Afterwards, I heard a voice! It said, "There will be no more sleep, Macbeth has murdered
sleep!" It was a frightening voice.

Lady Macbeth: Did it say anything else?

Macbeth: Yes! It cried out, "Macbeth has murdered sleep, Macbeth will never sleep again!" It
was a loud voice, I thought everyone in the castle would hear it!

Lady Macbeth: You're like a child! There was no voice! It was just your fear you heard.

Macbeth: But, the knife!

Lady Macbeth: Why are you still carrying the knife? Go and put it into the soldier's room!
Macbeth: I- I won't... I can't go back in there! I'll never go back in there!

Lady Macbeth: Give the knife to me! I'm not afraid! I'll put it into the soldier's room!
Macbeth: I have done a terrible thing! This blood will never go away! I wish I hadn't done
this!

Lady: Look at my hands! They're red like yours! But I'm not afraid! A little water will
remove the traces of our crime.

SCENE 6
Narrator: The next morning, Lennox and Macduff come for the king. They knock the door
and find the Guard, Porter drunk.

Lennox: Porter? Is anybody there?

Macduff: Oh, not again? Did you go to bed late, my friend? Perhaps you drank too much
before you went to bed last night? Is this why you didn't hear the knocking on the gate?

Porter: It's true, sir, I did drink too much last night, and I went to bed VERY late.

Lennox: Let's just go find Macbeth! Now, where is Macbeth?

Macduff: Good morning, Macbeth! Is the king awake yet?

Macbeth: No, he's still sleeping. Shall I wake him for you?

Macduff: No, I'll wake him myself - he told me to come

Macbeth: Oh! hello Lennox.

Lennox: Macbeth! Such a terrible night, Macbeth! The wind blew fiercely all night! Our
chimneys were blown down... some people even heard horrible screams, what do you think
that's all about?

Macbeth: It was just bad weather, it didn't mean anything!

Lennox: Yes, I think so too...

Macduff: [Screams]

Lennox: What happened?

Macduff: It's dreadful, too dreadful! Go and look for yourselves!

Lennox: is it the king? Is it the king?

Macduff: Murder, murder! Sound the alarm!

Malcom: What happened, why is there such noise?

Macduff: There is terrible news.

Donalbain: Tell us, is it the king? What about our father?

Macbeth: Your father has been murdered! It's true, Duncan has been murdered! He's been
slaughtered in his own bed! But who would kill the king?

Lennox: t was the two soldiers. When we went into their room, they were sleeping. They
were covered in blood. We asked them questions, but they could not answer. It must have
been them who killed Duncan!

Macduff: But why, why would they do it? We must ask them why!

Macbeth: We can't ask them anything. When I saw them, covered in the kings blood, I killed
them. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done it. But I loved the king.

Macduff: Good job, Macbeth, now we'll never know why they did it, or if someone paid them
to do it!

Lennox: Let's meet back here in an hour. We have to discuss what to do about the king's
murder.

Narrator: They all scatter. The 2 sons of the king are scared and now they plan to run away.

Malcolm: Yes. I don't feel safe here - someone has murdered our father, and I don't believe
what Macbeth told us.

Donalbain: I don't believe Macbeth either! Why would the two soldiers kill the king? It
doesn't make any sense. We'll never really know what happened.

Malcolm: Macbeth killed them too quickly.

Donalbain: What do you mean?

Macbeth said he killed the two soldiers because he was angry. I don't think he was angry. I
think he killed them because he didn't want them to be able to answer our questions.
Donalbain: You suspect Macbeth. I don't know.

Malcolm: But whoever killed our father is still here, and he might try to kill us next.

Donalbain: I agree. I'll go to England. I've got friends there.

Malcolm: And I'll go to Ireland.

Lennox: So? Well, it must have been Malcolm and Donalbain who killed the king - the king's
sons.

Macduff: I think I know what happened - they paid the soldiers to kill the king. They wanted
the throne for themselves. We must make sure they suffer for this terrible crime! But, who
shall we have as the new king?
(Everyone in chorus): Macbeth!

Macduff: He was the king's friend. He was the king's best friend, Macbeth shall
be the new king.

Lennox: There is a feast tonight at the castle. You will be the guest of honour, my friend. I
will be there. Bring your son Fleance with you, he's invited as well.

Macduff: We shall both be there. We're riding out this afternoon, but we'll be back in time for
the feast.

SCENE 7
Narrator: Macbeth talks to Banquo.

Tomorrow, we must talk. I hear that Malcolm and Donalbain have gone to England and
Ireland. They're trying to make trouble for me. We must decide what to do about them.
Banquo: Of course, my king.

Narrator: Banquo exits, Lady Macbeth enters.

Lady: You never seem happy, my love. I'm worried.

Macbeth: I have enemies, you know.

Lady: Tonight, we must try to be cheerful at the feast. Remember that.

Macbeth: Tonight, I will be cheerful. I promise.

Lady: Forget the past. What we did, we did. We can't change anything now.

Macbeth: Sometimes I'm worried about Banquo and Fleance. I don't feel safe when I'm
around them.

Lady: What can we do about them?

Macbeth: I have already done something - it's better that you don't know the details.

Banquo: My son, what do you believe about Macbeth?

Fleance: I don't know, father... he's been acting strangely.

Banquo: Yes... Macbeth was very strange these last few days... I don't know what's wrong
with him!

Thief 1: Are you sure Banquo and Fleance will come this way?

Thief 2: I'm sure they'll come this way.

Thief 3: And when they do, we kill them both. Macbeth wants them to die.

Thief 2: Shush! Here they are, I can hear them! Now! Attack!

Banquo: Run, Fleance, Run! It's a trap!

Witch 3: Curse you, Fleance!

SCENE 8
Narrator: They all gather for dinner.

Macbeth: Welcome. I'm happy to see you all. Tonight, we will enjoy ourselves with food and
wine.

Narrator: The majesty takes his char and they all begin to eat. Macbeth suddenly sees a ghost
of his friend Banquo.

Macbeth: I didn't do it! Don't look at me like that, I didn't do it!

Everyone in chorus: What's wrong with the king? Who's he talking to?

Lady: It's an illness of his, it'll soon pass. What is wrong with you? Remember your guests?
Where's your courage?

Macbeth: My courage? I'm a brave man to look at that ghost and not run away!

Lady: What ghost? There's nothing there! It's like the voice you heard before you killed
Duncan. It's just your imagination!

Macbeth: My imagination? But, can't you see Banquo's sitting right there! Forgive me... it's
just an illness of mine... I'll have to rest. To us, and to Banquo.

Chorus: To us and to Banquo!

 SCENE 9
Narrator: Macbeth goes to the witches as he was scared of all his deeds.

Macbeth: I have come to ask you something, you must tell me the truth.

Witch 3: If you don’t trust us, our masters will come to answer your questions - would you
prefer that?

Macbeth: call your masters.

Master 1: Macbeth, be careful of Macduff. That's my message, it's enough.

Master 2: Macbeth, be brave, and laugh to scorn the power of man.

Master 3: No man of woman born can hurt Macbeth. Macbeth will never be defeated, until
Burnum wood comes to Dunsinane Hills.

SCENE 10
Narrator: Macduff, Freyance and Fleance who ran to his life were now in a doubt about
Macbeth killing the king and Banquo.

Freyance: Malcolm and Donalbain can't have paid the soldiers to kill their father, they loved
him too much.

Fleance: Fine. Then, why did they run away? They must have been frightened!

Freyance: What about the two soldiers? You think they killed Duncan?

Macduff: I'll tell you what I think. I think the man who killed Duncan wanted to be king
himself.

Freyance: What about Banquo? Who killed Banquo? Could it have been Macbeth?

Macduff: Well, I don't know. But I don't feel safe here. I'll go to England. There's something
wrong with Scotland, we live in bad times.

Narrator: On his way to England, Macduff meets the two son of Duncan who flea away being
scared of the terror.

Malcolm: Will you fight with us? We need a man like you!

Macduff: Well, I don't know! It's true that Macbeth is a very bad man, but I'm not a traitor.
Give me time and I'll think about it.

Donalbain: All news from Scotland is bad. There's talk of a rebellion against Macbeth. We
need you, Macduff.

Macduff: What about my family? Is my family alright?

Donalbain: That is the worst news of all. Macbeth sent men to your castle. They killed your
wife.

Macduff: And what about my children? Are my children alright?

Malcolm: They're all dead. They killed everyone - your wife, your children, even the
servants!

Macduff: Not my poor children! Now, we'll you join us against Macbeth? We'll
take an army to Scotland, we'll defeat Macbeth! I'll come with you! I want to be the man who
kills Macbeth! I want revenge!
 SCENE 11:
Narrator: : On the other side, There is something wrong with the Queen...

Maid 1: she walks in her sleep at night. We’ll watch the Queen tonight to see what happens.
There she is! She's walking, but she's asleep! What's she doing? She seems to be rubbing her
hands! She always does that... is she washing her hands?

Lady: Yet here's a spot! Out, damn spot, out I say! One... two... well, then it's time to do it!
Hell is murky! Fie, my lord, fie! A soldier... and a feared? What need we fear? Who knows it,
when none can call our power to account? Yet, who would have thought the old man would
have so much blood in him? The thane of fifth
had a wife! Wh- where is she now? Will these hands ever be clean? No more of that my lord,
no more of that. Wash your hands... put.. on your nightgown. Look not so pale. Here's the
smell of blood still! Het all the perfumes of Arabia cannot sweeten this little hand!

Maid: She will soon go to bed. She's mad, but her madness tells the truth.
Macbeth and his wife have done some terrible things.

SCENE 12
Macduff: Every soldier must cut a branch from one of these trees. We'll carry the branches in
front of us, it will confuse Macbeth's army!

Macbeth: What is the noise?

Maid 2: The queen is dead, sir.

Macbeth: She dies today, when there's a battle to fight.

I cannot think of her today. Well, what is it? What's the news?

Thief 1: I don't know how to tell you sir, I... I have seen something that I don't fully
understand!

Macbeth: What did you see?

Thief 1: As I looked out towards Burnum wood, the woods

seemed to move!

Macbeth: You're lying! That's impossible!

Thief 1: You can see for yourself, sir, Burnum wood is moving towards Dunsinane hill.

Macbeth: Then I'm finished. But I will die like a man. Anyway, no man of woman born can
kill me. That is my one hope.
Macduff: Who are you?

Macbeth: You will be afraid to hear my name - I am Macbeth!

Macduff: I hate that name!

Macbeth: You fear it, too!

Macduff: I have been searching for you, Macbeth! Today I will kill you!

Macbeth: Keep away from me! No man of woman born can kill me!! Run, and save yourself.

Macduff: Know this, Macbeth! I was no born of a woman. I was taken early from my
mother's womb. And now you shall die for the deaths of my wife and my children.

Macbeth: I will not fight you!

Macduff: Then, you must surrender! You will be a prisoner,

and everyone will come to mock you.

Macbeth: No, I won't surrender! I won't be mocked by the people! Everything has finished.
Burnum wood has come to Dunsinane Hill, and you are
not of woman born! Still, I prefer to fight like a man!

I'll fight you like the man that I am!
