Hi everyone,
Today I’m going to be showing you guys how to make a (boned) corset top.
I just want to note that for some people the straps might be too small, you can adjust
them by measuring yourself and then cutting the straps in half. Tape them on a paper and
move the straps up how much you want. Tape everything and cut your pattern piece
out. (Tutorial in the youtube video)
This pattern is made for a lace up closing, if you want to add a zipper I suggest you add a
seam allowance for the zipper.
Materials:
• Fabric of at least 150 cm by 100 cm
• Grommets (a kit)
• Boning (optional)
• Ribbon or shoelace
• Bias tape
• A sewing machine
• A scissor, thread and pins

Cut out all your pieces and your lining. You should now have: 2 centre fronts, 4 fronts, 4
backs and 4 centre back pieces.
Start by pinning your centre front and your front body pieces with the right sides together.
Straight stitch one cm from the edge. A seam allowance of 1 cm is already included in
this pattern. (For beginners I just want to note that this might be tricky because the pieces
are kind of rounded, start by placing a pin at the beginning and the end, work your way to
the middle and adjust where needed).

Take your back and your centre back pieces and pin them with the right sides together.
Straight stitch and repeat for the other two.
Now, take your front piece and your back piece and pin them with the right sides
together. Straight stitch and repeat for the other side.
Repeat this entire process for your lining pieces.
With your lining pieces nished, lay them right side together with your fabric piece. Pin all
the way but leave the top of the sleeves and the bottom of your top open. Straight stitch.
So do not stitch the bottom of your top and the top of your sleeves.

Turn everything inside out except the back sleeves.
Take your front sleeve and insert it into the back sleeve. Make sure it isn’t turned or
twisted. Pull it all the way to the opening and place a pin. Straight stitch the two sleeve
pieces together. Turn it inside out and your sleeve will be nished.
If you want to add boning, you can take a pencil and draw where you want your boning to
be. This is completely optional. Straight stitch everywhere where the boning needs to be.

Now you can insert your boning. Make sure you leave at least 1,5 cm room for your bias
tape. If you use plastic boning or zip ties like me, make sure to le your boning pieces
round so there aren’t any sharp edges that can damage your fabric.
Lockstitch the bottom of your top or if you don’t have an overlocker you can just zigzag
stitch the bottom and cut of the excess fabric. This prevents shredding.
Sew bias tape to the bottom of your top. (If you do not know how to sew bias tape search
on YouTube)
Mark where you want your eyelets/grommets to be. I made 5 on each side but you can
make more/less if you wish. But make sure they are the same distance from each other
and that the eyelets of the right side are exactly in front of the eyelets from the left side.
Make little holes for your eyelets. Insert the prominent part down in the fabric, so that the
right side is seen on the right side of your fabric, and close it from the wrong side with the

Insert a shoelace or ribbon trough the eyelets and your corset top is nished!
