PRESENTATION & DISCUSSION Let’s first define!
Interview Extract- refers to a portion or an excerpt
of the interview.
The teacher allows the students to interpret the
image.
Code – refers to the label assigned to a salient idea
or thought from the data set.
Theme – refers to the concept that appears
repeatedly throughout the data set.

through a thematic analysis in a tabular form. Let’s
learn more about thematic analysis.
Thematic analysis- a method for analyzing qualitative data
that entails searching across a data set to identify, analyze,
and report repeated patterns (Braun and Clarke, 2006).
There are two approaches in thematic analysis, the
inductive approach and deductive approach.
However, we will only focus on the inductive
approach.
Inductive Approach- allowing the data to determine your
Themes.

PROCESS IN WRITING THEMATIC ANALYSIS
1. Transcribe your data
If your data is in the form of audio files,
transcribe them yourself.
2. Familiarize the data

3. Do the coding process

meanings and patterns you saw in the data.

4. Generate the themes
Next, we look over the codes we’ve created,
identify patterns among them, and start
coming up with themes.
5. Write up the discussion and analysis.
Finally, we’ll write up our analysis of the
data. Like all academic texts, writing up a
thematic analysis requires an introduction to
establish our research question, aims and
approach.

one whole sheet of paper.
Effect of Classical Music on The Academic Performance of Students
Question: How does playing classical music help you study if you need to tune it out to
concentrate on the study material? Does it set the tone for your session?
Participant 1: Playing background music while studying can be great for some, be
distracting for others. If you feel that music is enjoyable and soothing and help you focus
then use it. Quick music causes me to type much faster, slower music is more helpful for
reading or writing down by hand new material from your books. Choose what feels great for
you because it will help you feel less bored.
Paerticipant 2: I often listen to music. I have to be really careful to select the music for the
occasion, though. When studying or reading, depending on your location, it might help
having music. It helps if there is a lot of unpredictable noise. Not all classical music works
for this. I found that my selection of non-distracting background music decreased quite
dramatically as I started playing more genres of music myself (as in: as a musician) since I
tend to pay more attention to all the various aspects of the music.
VI. ASSIGNMENT
With your respected groups, create your own chapter 1 introduction by following the
inverted pyramid and guide in writing.
