Drying Rate Curve Calcium Carbonate

AIM

To dry calcium carbonate slurry and plot the rate of drying Curve. Calculate
EMC of calcium carbonate for the given drying conditions.
OBSERVATIONS AND CALCULATIONS

1. Weight of empty stainless steel plate, WË 51.7g

2. Weight of stainless stecl plate + sample slurry, w; 44
3. Weight of the sample slurry, w; = w) - W, 31.3ig
4. 45 g of sample slurry contains 15 g of calcium carbonate
W3g of sample slurry contains ? g of calcium carbonate
15 x W3
= WAg of calcium carbonate 43
45

5. Weight of total water content (TWC), ws = (W3- W4) =248 g

6. Diameter of stainless steel plate, d=Ocm

7. Radius of stainless steel plate, r = (d/2) = 5 Cm

8. Area of stainless steel plate, A = n=135 cm

9. Moisture content removed from the sample = w) - last weight of steel plate
taken with sample+ water (if any)

10. EMC=Total water content (ws g) FMC (Column 3initial -Column 3fina)
