WHAT YOU AND I COULD DO DURING

AN EARTHQUAKE and FLOOD

s.w- Jun Ho what would you do during
an earthquake? There are lots of things
to do during an earthquake.
Jun- i will go away from the city, so I
don’t get hit by any debries and power
lines that contains electric shocks.
s.w- that is a great advice! I would do
the same thing as you too.

s.w- did you know a man name Zahrul

Fuadi survived an earthquake that happened
before a huge tsunami.

Jun- i have also heard about that story, its

says that he ran away and thinking that it was
the end of the world.
s.w- as you know people from around the
world had made lots of safety kits for natural
disasters.

Jun- yes, but we don’t really get to use it

because most of the time people don’t know
when it will happen.

Jun- do you want to know what I would really

do first when an earthquake happens?

s.w- sure!, it’s a pleasure

Jun- I would start to find food which are know

to be the most important thing and water, it’s
the only thing we absolutely need or else we
could die

s.w- lets now talk about what we could do

during a flood.

Jun- as you know, floods are know to be

sometimes dangerous and also deadly.

s.w- that is true the best advice to follow

during a flood is to not walk through the flood
jun- yes, it is because we all don’t know how
deep the flood is and what might be under it.

s.w- for some reason people try to hide under

a basement during a flood. For me that is a
very bad decision.
 Jun- I might be better to Seal walls in
basements with waterproofing compounds
to avoid seepage.

S.W- what an excellent another advice for people

to hear and learn.

S.w- but in my opinion we should Pay attention to

weather forecasts. When heavy rain or storms are
forecasted, listen to the radio or television for
information on flooding risk.

Jun- that is also a good advice to the students

and teachers to memorize.

s.w- we need lot of types of supplies and tools

during these natural disaster lets list the things we
need.

Jun- fist aid kits to cure any injuries on your body

s.w- weapons to hunt down foods or for your own
safety
jun- a mobile radio with an antenna to get any
calls from military or other survivors.
Sw- food and water for your survival.
Jun- a tent if you cant build or find any shelter.
Sw- lets just say we just need anything that is
helpful for our survival.

Jun- I have a question, which is more deadlier an

earthquake or a flood.

s.w-People might think its earthquake because

they are worried that apartments would be broken
down into pieces and will hit them.

s.w- but for me flood might be more deadlier

jun- what makes you say that?

s.w- imagine a flash flood people wont be able to

act fast because flash floods are known to be
having a max speed of 67 mph.

jun- that is very impressive

jun- i chose earthquake because when an
earthquake happens it sometimes doesn’t mean
its just one natural disaster a thing called tsunami
might happen after an earthquake so the tsunami
is known to be the finisher.

s.w: Thank you for that answer. If there is any

disasters that is more deadlier than an
earthquake, what might it be?

Jun: I would certainly say a typhoon or a

hurricane is much deadlier than a Tsunami and an
Earthquake. Because Hurricane katrina in 2005
cost the USA 180 billion dollars in damage. It is
the largest natural disaster in the world.

s.w: I would think a hurricane would be more

problematic than a tsunami but I think a Flood is
more deadlier. In 1931, China received a giant
flooding by the excessive raining in china. It was
over 70,000 in square miles and It killed over 2
million Chinese people.

Jun: That was a good argument.

s.w:The best way to survive a flood is 1. Be
informed early the head of time before the flood
starts, 2 move immediately to high ground and
avoiding walking and driving around waters
because 6 inches of moving water can knock you
down and 1 food of water can swoop your car,
eventually drowning.

Jun: Yes, and to survive a hurricane, you stay

indoors, away from windows and glass doors.
Keep all of the blinds and curtains closed.
, and brace and secure any external doors.

S.w: Thank you for listening to our podcast.

Jun: This is our first time making a podcast so I

hope in the future, we can make a better podcast
for this school.

All: Goodbye
